Bamix De Luxe Blender

About four months ago I purchased a Bamix De Luxe blender. Since then I have had problems. The following is an e-mail I sent to the shop early this month.

On 4th February I phoned your (town where product was purchaed) shop and spoke to a lady assistant. I said I had previously seen the Bamix blender in the shop, and asked questions about what it could do - I particularly wanted it for blitzing home made vegetable soups and for making mayonnaise, and was advised it was excellent for those purposes. On her recommendation (she has a Bamix at home she advised me) I purchased the product over the phone and had it delivered. However, I am becoming increasingly despairing of this product to do the job properly. When I use the chopping blade for blitzing soups I find that masses of "strings" of vegetable become wrapped around the blade (rather like matted hair in a plughole) which has to be removed, cleared and cleaned before retrying to whiz the soup - a very fiddly job indeed! I have to do this at least two or three times. However, I always end up with lots of these strings in the soup itself, which make the soup rather difficult to drink from a cup as I find that I am having to remove the "strings" from my chin! All in all not a good experience, and for the price I paid for this product I find it inefficient. Indeed my old and much cheaper stick blender did a much better job, left the soup far smoother, and blended soups far more efficiently (no strings) before it finally gave up the ghost. So, where do we go from here? I have struggled on for the past three months with this product and I am extremely unhappy with it. It clearly is not fit for purpose. Your comments would be very much appreciated as soon as possible.

I received the following response.

So sorry to hear that you are not happy with the bamix, it is considered as the very best stick blender on the market and is widely used in both the domestic and commercial markets. Having won many endorsements it is certainly fir for purpose! It could well be that you have not quite mastered it’s use, probably the best thing to do is to contact Bamix UK direct and express your concerns they have a great advise service and produce a number of useful publications that could help. info@bamix-blender.co.uk

Despite the fact that I then e-mailed back stating that I was not happy with their response, and that the previous time I had e-mailed Bamix UK they had not answered for six weeks by which time I had purchased the product, this shop owner has again reiterated that I need to contact Bamix UK. I have advised him that his shop is the seller of the goods, and as such they should be dealing with my complaint, but he is very firmly passing the buck to Bamix who yet again have so far not responded in the past two weeks. All I have is their website address, no proper address or phone number.

So where do I go from here? Advice required please.

What veg are you having trouble with? Sometimes large bits of celery can do that , as it has a tendancy to be stringy.

I've had my bamix for years, & never had any problems with it doing that (other than the odd bit of big celery).

It either sounds like you are not using it right, or there is a problem with the one you have.

[Can't really see how you could not be using it right though. Is the chopping blade fully pushed into the holder? Other than that..which I sometimes manage to get wrong...it's point at veg & push the button. And presumably you are using the right blade? Not the whisk or beater blades :o.]

It does sound like there is something wrong with it.

Did you get it from Lakeland? They are usually fantastic at sorting out problems, & giving refunds or replacements.

No, its not from Lakeland - I too have dealt with them and they are excellent if there is a problem.

I do use celery, but I do chop all the vegetables up. I use the chopping blade, not the whisk or the aerator. And yes, I am making sure the blade is on correctly.

My problem is that I need clarification on who I should be directing this problem to - my very limited knowledge tells me that I should be getting the shop to address this problem, not Bamix UK. Plus, because the shop will not help, I have had to e-mail Bamix UK but I cannot get a response from from them.

The Bamix is 100% fit for purpose..it does what it says on the tin! It's an excellent product...where did you buy it from? Have you requested a replacement?

Since Bamix have not replied then you should get back to the shop. Your initial email is rather vague - you did not specifically ask for a replacement. You say you bought by mail order, but had been into the shop previously. Can you go in with it, it's bits & box, & ask for a straight replacement, or refund?

Are you sure she gave you the right email address?

You can contact bamix switzerland regarding a service in the uk here
    http://www.bamix.com/en/kontakt/index.shtml

Or Proven Products seem to be operating as bamix uk, & there is a phone number here for their order line, & an email form http://www.bamixuk.com/

Actually, there are a few companies who seem to be operating as bamix uk. Perhaps that is why you have not got a response. I don't think they have a proper uk dept, just shops/online companies licensed to resell.

These, http://www.bamix-blender.co.uk/ who you have emailed
And these http://www.bamixblenders.co.uk/Wheretobuy.html who say there is no uk presence, but offer advice, & will sell you one. Try the swiss site listed above if you actually want to get through to bamix.

I cannot comment on others stating that Bamix is fit for purpose, only that I consider that MY Bamix does not do the job for which it was purchased. It was an expensive piece of kit to splash out on, but I repeat, it is not fit for purchase. It clearly does not do the job efficiently, and no matter how long I whiz the soup, it does not give a smooth consistency. I chop all vegetables to a reasonable size before sweating them, adding stock and cooking further, so they are well tender.

The shop/town where I purchased this is about an 80 mile round trip away, and in view of the shop owner's comments and insistence on passing the buck, I feel that I will be wasting my time, money and petrol in returning the product to the shop.

I do not still have the packaging as it was purchased more than four months ago.

Many thanks sooz for the info on Bamix Switzerland - think I will give them a try, as Bamix UK - who do not provide a telephone number or an address on their website - are slow to the extreme in answering messages on their e-mail link. I have seen the Proven Products website which appears to be completely different from the Bamix UK website, so I am not sure there is much point in contacting them.

Still require clarification on whether the shop owner is supposed to do something to address my complaint - does anyone have any knowledge of the law in this instance?

You seem to be suggesting they your bamix is faulty, in which case it is for the retailer to deal with.

The Consumer Direct website will help you.

One important thing to remember is that if a product is returned to the retailer as faulty during the first six months after purchase then the onus is on the seller to prove the fault was not there when he sold it to you. After six months the onus transfers to the consumer to prove that the fault is inherent.

[or something like that... read about it on the linked to website]
