Hi,
Does anyone know whether income protection insurance is classed as earnings?
This is only paid while seeking employment and is not taxable.
Many thanks

I am yet to find out from the Job Centre. They didn't know.
If it's mortgage protection etc then it's not classed. If it's income protection, like mine is, then it could be classed, altho like I say, not had a definate answer yet.
You do have to claim JSA still, and sign on, whether or not you get JSA allowance or not. The insurers will get you to sign a form from job centre one a month to enable you to claim.
I wasn't aware that it would affect JSA, so I'm a little annoyed, but still, at least I have a guaranteed amount every month.9/70lbs to lose

The problem being I am 30 weeks pregnant - and will recive SMP from my employer. I have spoken to my Income insurance company and they have said (only verbaly, but hopefully in practice) that I can still claim after I have the baby as long as I can prove that I am looking for work - which I will be!! I think I will need to get the jobcentre to sign something.
Its just for tax credits purposes only. thanks0 -
Have you lost your job? I'm confused.. (doesn't take much

Oh dear, I see

For the income protection you need to be registered for job seekers allowance. This means going to the job centre and 'signing on' (I had to do it on Monday)..
To stay signed on you must go back when they tell you, every 2 weeks, on a set day and time for a 15 minute appointment.
By doing this, it will mean that every month the job centre will fill out a form for you to send to you insurance which confirms to your insurers that you are looking for work.
Hope that makes sense..9/70lbs to lose

Even if you aren't entitled to claim JSA, then you still need to do the above, as it proves you are looking for work.
You can claim Housing benefit, Council tax Benefit, Local Housing Allowance also, they will go through that with you.
The number to make a Job seekers allowance claim is 0800 055 66 88 - ring them once you have been made redundant and they will go through it with you and make an appointment to see an advisor at the job centre. If you just go to the job centre I think you will be asked to go back another day.9/70lbs to lose
