Egg Application

OH has just applied online for an Egg Card and was successful and was given a £9000 credit limit.

The next screen asked if he wanted to add an additional card holder and he clicked yes, to add me.

Once he input my details, the next page said they would need further information and will be sending out a letter advising what proof of identification will be required and where to send it etc.

My questions are :

1) This has never happened before. I've been on the electoral roll for over 20 years at this address and I've held an Egg Isa up until 2 years ago when I closed the account so they would have details of me on their system, so why has this happened now? I'm very boring, nothing much changes with me, lol. My credit file shows everything ok too so am a bit confused.

2) Will the hiccup over me as the extra card holder hold up him being sent his card etc. We want to do a BT asap and are not sure when we can. Might they refuse me as an extra cardholder? If they do, will that affect the account & limit OH has just been accepted for? Any ideas?

As ever, thanks for any help. :)

I think that you should be glad that they ask you to provide evidence of who you are...don't you? You see so many fraudulent application these days. That should have no impact on your OH application as he is the one responsible for the debt. What your OH could do is to call Egg & advise them that you'd like to do a transfer, you may not have to wait until the card arrive to do it.

I don't have a problem with the security requirements, I just think they are strange considering I've been on the electoral role at this address for twice as long as he has and they have my details already.

He doesn't have an account number or card number yet, so I'm assuming he'd have to wait until he got those at the very least?

If he has been accepted then he may not have to wait as he only needs the details of the credit card he want to make the transfer from, so if he calls Egg they might be able to accept the transfer without him having to wait for the card to arrive.

I'm pretty sure Egg still require the card to be activated before a balance transfer can be done (by confirming the card number over the phone or online).

Yeah, as far as i am aware card needs to be activated before any form of transaction can go through ,,,be it a BT or a new spend.
That is my understanding. Apologies, if i am wrong

Yes you are. in fact some will ask you if wanting to do a balance transfer at application stage, then if successful the transfer will be done while you wait for your card & pin.

    Taken from the Egg site:

How do I make a balance transfer?
If you're a new Egg Card customer you won't be able to make balance transfers until you have received and activated your new card.

This is not the case with Egg but I can confirm it is with RBS.
