My dog gone cuckoo!!

It's both of our fault really, cause next door's dog escaped and so was ours..hmm accidents happened!:p
I do admit that I should say no prehaps more than I did though. (I'm improving!) I will be firmer, promised!
Accidents shouldn't happen with dogs really, if there is a litter as a result of this that would be very sad:(
You need to be much much firmer with your dog, if he can open your doors then they need to be locked and the same with the fridge as eating your food will upset his stomach. If he cannot be trusted in the house when you are not there have you thought about a large crate or confining him to one room? An Akita Inu is too powerful when fully grown to be out of control so he needs to be under your control and to listen to both you and your partner.
Btw they are lovely dogs:)0 -
I hope you will be getting your little dog neutered too?0
-
Little Gizmo will be neutered too but not the same day as Hanzo, he'll probably have it done next month. He is not showing any abnormal behaviour even though all this was going on while they're left alone..I think he'd thank Hanzo for getting him some food from the fridge! :>
Yes, we've set up something to keep Hanzo in the garden when we're not around, it will restrict him in a way that he won't be able to reach the fence for him to jump over and escape. As for the fridge, we'll definitely need to find a lock for it as we don't want to keep him in the garden forever especially if the weather is not good.Pinklover xx0 -
Is there no way of restricting his access to the entire house whilst allowing him to remain in the house rather than the garden. There are lots of things to think about if leaving a dog in the garden, they need to have sufficient shelter, water and be able to move around. Plus there is always a risk that your dog will be stolen (although i'm not sure if this is possible with living on a barracks)
Have you spoken to your vet about his change in behaviour?0 -

if you have tethered him, you must ensure he has sufficient shelter to get out of the sun if it is too hot - this is more a risk to him than cold or rain, and that he has a source of water that can't be knocked over.
It will also be torture for him if next doors b1tch in heat is around - and she may get through to him rather than vice versa.
When my mum first had her dog, she tied her lead round the garden bench leg for about twenty minutes whilst she dealt with a visitor - however, the dog followed her within minutes, having chewed through the lead!0 -
Yes, we tried the tying the lead in the garden and he chewed throught the lead as well! He does have access to water and shade (underneath a big tree)..as for being stolen, it really will be very hard being in the barracks..as no one even locked their front door! I know this will only be temporarily because he actually normally rather be indoor but it is only because of his sexual urges to next door's dog that he wants to be let out or escape etc, I'll judge the situation base on how he feels after neutering..I know it won't change overnight but will allow time for him to recover and settle in etc.
We tried restricting him in the house to maybe just the ground floor or one room etc, he learnt how to open the door pretty much straight away or jump the baby gate etc, he scratched all the door so bad when we tried to keep him in one room. While he was a puppy, we tried to keep him in a large crate and follow the training of the crate but he got completely gone nuts and even hurt himself in order to break the lock and get out! Perhaps its the fox nature that comes into play, probably happiest in the wild! :>Pinklover xx0 -
do ask the vet tomorrow if there is anything they can give him to calm down his urges until the neutering slows them down - I would not be at all surprised if he managed to get out of the garden despite your best efforts - if he cannot get over fences, he may well dig under...0

Just a quick update! Hanzo had his op yesterday and is feeling a bit dazy, walking funny with the new changes! We went for a slow walk last night and he was sniffing at his usual place but marking probably half of what he used to do..probably just becos he is too tired and drugged up! Vet asked us to keep him on lead for 10 days, he is so far not licking his wound as yet but maybe soon when it start to get itchy?
Anyway, little Gizmo is leaving him alone as well..so he's just lazing around and we've kept him in the house today to see how he gets on, hopefully too tired to do any damage or open the fridge again! :>Pinklover xx0
