Hotpoint fridge freezer warm?

Just want to pick brains please,
My temp gauge in the fridge shows +10c(or around that) so i then tested the freezer temperature which showed -12c using the samr thermometer.
I realise these temps are not correct for the fridge and freezer so i will buy another temp gauge just in case this one is faulty and giving false readings.
However my question is:If the temperature inside the fridge and freezer is too high what is the possible problem?
It is located in the kitchen and all door seals seem fine.Obviously the unit is working and food is frozen by the freezer but i know it should be -18c.

Is the thermostat in the fridge/freezer on the lowest setting? It may have been knocked to a warmer setting. How long has this been a problem?YNWA

Thanks so far.
The fridge thermostat is at its coldest setting and the freezer one is about half way i.e there are separate controls for fridge and freezer,so i assume two thermostats?0
