My Dyson is 10 years old and counting, I love it cos it's a pink and purple one. Still sucks as well as ever, and our house is fully carpeted except for kitchen and bathroom. If I need to replace it it will be with another Dyson, especially with the longer guarantee they do now.

I'm afraid I have to admit that my career path does not lie in the reporting of sensationalism (i.e. journalism), I work in academia.

First Dyson I had forever and ever, but after about the 3rd service I grew tired of it, every time it stopped working I had to take it to Dyson hospital, so eventually I decided to make the decision and went for the PTS option. The less we say about the 2nd Dyson that came into my life the better, though if inquiring minds wish to know, the answer is no, Dysons do NOT fly when they travel down the stairs.

The Bissell has just stopped working, I have cleaned everything out and nada. I could take it to get fixed, but I have never liked it, so who can deny me the pleasure of a pink vacuum cleaner, with a girly name to boot.

My Dyson lost suction - I just took it into the local repair centre, they took it to pieces, couldn't find anything wrong with it and now it works like new!!:D I have two fluffy cats and it gets everything up from the carpet. My only complaint is that it is rather cumbersome on the stairs.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

They loose suction when the filters get blocked. You take the filter out every so often and wash it and dry it and hey presto the suction comes back:D

My friend was given one that had "packed up" because of this, does no-one bother to read the instructions for care when buying a relatively expensive piece of equipment?

Mine has to cope with 9 cats (which is down from 12) two kids, and the bits that the degus and guinea pig scatter from their cages. It is used at least once every day of the week, and with minimal care and a monthly/six weekly wash of the filters, still performs as new.

I could never take to my dyson.
When I need a new one, I'm thinking of a miele, they've been recommended by a "clean freak" friend.
I'm using a tesco value cylinder at the mo, to be honest it's not bad at all!
