Purely speculating... but if you're part way through a divorce, it may be worth checking with your solicitor first. I'm not sure of the detail, but I know someone who got in a right pickle because she changed her name before the divorce proceedings and separation of finances were complete. Not insurmountable, but she'd have probably waited a bit if she'd have known the implications.0

Hi there,
When I got divorced I didnt change my name back by deed poll - I drew up a statutory declaration which declared that from now on I wished to be known by ......., it was drawn up officially. Then had it signed by a Solicitor. I have then presented this to various banks, inland revenue etc and now go by my chosen name. It cost me £15 all in. Was about 5 years ago though.
Hope that helps

It's a few years ago now, but I just told the school, doctors etc that my daughters and I would be known as X. I've never had to do anything else. The name on their birth certificate is different from their passports but I've just written a letter to explain the difference. Both children have had passports renewed with no problem, and eldest DD gets Visas for working in the US easily (Camp America). The only issue I had was with Child trust funds started in their previous name, but they accepted school reports etc as proof name had been changed.
I have not paid anything for a name change at any time.0 -
Witter, you can do it yourself and just get the document sworn by a Solicitor. I did my son's a few years ago, when I remarried. It cost me £5.00. PM me your Manchester whereabouts.....I am actually a Practice Manager at a firm of Solicitors0

All you need is a Statutory Declaration and get a solicitor to sign it. I helped someone once with one. Accepted at all banks, passport office, DSS, everywhere. Solicitor charged £5 !0

i had my name changed last year, the council should have a births/death/wedding/names office, here you can register a new name it cost me £7 but i assume it will depend on the council
this is if you are born in that city, you provide them your dob and hospital of birth, they find your certificate and you fill out a form and they get you the paperwork in a day or two0 -
