How do you post an event on Facebook?

Our school PTA is hosting a circus and need to boost sales.

Tried to do facebook but is asking for a charge, is this right.
I would like to do a public ad please.

If its just to advertise the event, then i think you need to make a group about it first then create the event..
i made one for our school reunion...
Created Group, then created an event within the group..

I have created a 'PFA' group on facebook and invited all my facebook friends from the school and then got them to to do the same so we are slowly adding as many parents to it as we can . When we have a fair or disco etc I then create an event for the group which get's posted on their profile page .

I think that if you want to do a public ad though, there will be a charge

There may be community groups on facebook for your area, they might let you post an advert on their group wall?
