Forgive me - I've searched for an answer and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of info on the web - need tech savvy MSErs to help an old Dude
For quite some time I've been using a Belkin G Plus Mimo Router - it was a nightmare to set up involving several frustrating overseas 'helpline' calls listening to muppets read from a script, but all that said in fairness once I got it working it's been mainly fine.
I've had 3 niggly problems with it:
1. Setting up my XBOX 360 to talk to it wirelessly was a nightmare - I got it to work eventually, but it was a total, utter nightmare and took years off me - but eventually it worked.
2. Other wireless devices worked fine (lappies mainly), although the wireless signal dimmed in some parts of Chez Dude.
3. The XBOX on-line gaming performance (COD4) was hit and miss - sometimes great, other times very laggy - I kind of lost interest due to the laggy sessions.
Anyhow I'm thinking of getting back into online XBOX gaming again and manged to work out that wireless 'N' is much better than 'G' - I've sourced a 'N' wireless XBOX adapter - can anyone recommend a 'N' router that is easy to set up and talks happily to the XBOX??

I must admit, if you are lagging out on the xbox I suspect its your internet rather than your wireless.
I have a G router at my parents house and its lasted 5+ years and never been at fault.
I currently have:
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=275346
with
2 computers plugged in, 2 routers plugged into that, xbox + PC coming out of the 2 routers each, plus i am also connected wirelessly into the Belkin router (with 2/3 devices)
I have an N Wireless card and it is running faster than wired (162Mbps compared to 100Mbps)0 -

It would help if you said whether you're on Cable or ADSL.
I recently bought a Linksys WRT610N and have been very happy with it but I'm on cable. If you're looking for modem/router to use with ADSL it wouldn't be any good to you. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I Personally would recommend NetGear
WIRELESS-N SERIES ROUTER – DGN2000
It's really nice and allows you to set up Qos (Quality of service) Allowing you to set the maximum bandwidth between your devices (This Could help your 360 gaming)
Also Lagging on COD is not necessarily your fault as it could the hosts fault.

Cable - Vrigin/Blueyonder.0 -
You could look at a dual band router which will allow you to have the x-box on one frequency (5Ghz) and your other devices on the frequency (2.4Ghz).
Could be trickier than a normal router to set up but will give you better results.0 -
Hmm - Internet speed is fine - Speedtest gives a 9.87 Mb download just now - when the lappies are connected wirelessly there are no problems too...

doing an internet speed test will tell you a very very small part of how good/bad your internet connection is for gaming, I'd strongly suggest picking up a cheapish ethernet cable of whatever length you need and testing if the problem goes away when you're wired in and no wireless comes into play at all.
If the problem is fixed by the wire then yes by all means go consider a wireless N system etc etc
If however (and I strongly suspect will be the case) you get just as much lag and stuttering when you're wired in as when you're wirelessly connecting fiddling with the wireless side will make no difference at all and you need to look at getting your internet connection fixed/tweaked/shifted to a more reliable provider if they can't fix it0 -
In that case I'd recommend the Linksys WRT610N I mentioned earlier. It's dual channel so if your xbox will support Wireless N on 5GHz you can set up a seperate network just for that. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
