Can I stop her moving a lodger in?

I recently split up with my girlfriend and for the last few months she has continued paying her half of the mortgage despite moving out.
We have agreed to sell the house as soon as possible.
However in the meantime she wishes to move a lodger in to pay her half of the rent - I'm against this as I don't want a stranger moving in.
She firmly believes I can't stop her from doing this but is this the case?

probably not but why not ask here to split the money so you both pay less ??Ex forum ambassador

under the terms of your mortgage, a lodger wouldn't be allowed unless you informed them. You'd also be likewise in breach of your insurance. You could use these as a reason not to have a lodger in, but you could always use the suggestion of the previous poster & split the rent?"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

you can take a lodger without telling the mortgage company, only need their permsission for renting the whole place..
I've got a lodger , never been a problem we split the bills so it reduces my costs on gas/electric etc (and the money is tax free up to £4250 )Ex forum ambassador

ah, you posted in the time it took me to reply! So, if you're very against a lodger moving in with you, then you could try the "we're not allowed to move in lodgers" tactic"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

I have to tell my lender if I wish to move someone in who pays me rent, as I would also have to do with my household insurance. I do agree though, I was always grateful for the fair bit of extra tax free income! As a live in landlord too, you do have far more control of the situation and the ground rules are always your own !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

It's mostly council houses and high unemployment where I live. There is a high demand for renting but there is no way I would like to live with most of them - you guys ever been to a small isolated northern ex mining community? It's the definition of grim.
So it looks like I can't stop her?0 -

I would have a quick flick through your T&C for your mortgage & household insurance, you never know"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Just say no. You don't want a lodger. Tell her you'll move out and pay half the morgage? She could live there instead?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
