PSNI broke door down and now won't pay

Did the police make any attempt to contact you BEFORE breaking down the door?
The missing person was missing three days before the police battered down the door... did the sudden urgency occur only on the third day? Perhaps the police should invest in a locksmith who would have been able to open your door without causing massive amounts of damage.
Basically the police had alternatives (a ladder to look in the windows - jebus i just cant stop coming up wth alternatives!) and it was not a life and death moment. They went in gung-ho to try out their new battering ram and you're paying for their training!
Small claims... wouldn't cost a lot to go speak to a solicitor for 20 minutes!Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?

If you are a member of a Trade Union you should be able to avail of an hour's initial consultation with a Solicitor for free, possibly some other Solicitors might offer this, but I doubt it as most of them are money-grabbing...............Sorry, got carried away there :mad:Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

If it was me I would issue a claim in the county courts against the police. I know the police solicitor says they don't pay court fees - but that is down to the courts to decide if the police have to pay or not - not down to the police to decide what part of the claim they will/won't settle.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.0 -

They can do. But the OP can take the psni to court to force the issue as well. The point is that one would be taking proactive measures and also forcing the issue into a more publicised perspective...Always overestimating...0 -
have you asked your mums solicitor for advice .
I think it costs very little for the small claims court
the last time she went to her solicitor it was £50 for a 30 minute consultation.warmhands.coldheart wrote: »Did your mum still have tenents Deposit?? I so take the money from that..... Make it the Tennants Problem as it was them they were looking for!!
the tennant had moved out 2 weeks previously and so had already got his deposit back. and also as far as we know he's back in lithuania. The n.Ireland office may pay out the cost. Get in contact with your local councilor, MP or citizens advice.
my mum spoke to the local MP today so hopefully that will get us somewhere.
and can I just say THANK YOU! to all you fellow northern irelanders because i posted a similar thread on a general board (didn't know where to post) and nearly everyone who replied on that said it was my mum's responsibility and the police can basically do as they please. so again THANK YOU.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

thats cos in Northern Ireland we don't assume the police can do what they like and get away with it0 -
How did you fair with this case did they pay?
PS
Does this only happen in Cookstown, cos that's where my house is?

in the first letter to my mum the police said that they do not pay any legal costs even if we were to win.Irishsmurfy wrote: »If it was me I would issue a claim in the county courts against the police. Correct. It's for the judge decide who pays what. Not the defendant.0 -
There were a lot of drugs found in Cookstown over the past weekend so perhaps this has something to do with yours Jax2girl. Also, there's a hostel in the town that they place fairly undesirable people in and I believe it leads to some problems too.
Other than that it's a nice place to live!0
