Hi All

Me and my partner get the keys to our first house on Friday and were pretty green on who to pick for gas and electricity. Currently the house is powered by EON for electricity and British Gas for Gas.

We want to have both coming from 1 supplier. We have heard good things about Southern Electric so do we just need to ring up the above suppliers on that 1st day and tell them to stop and then contact Southern electric and ask them to set us up?

Are we able to do this before we move in or do we have to wait until we get the keys?

Also a mate of mine mentioned ebico, anyone heard of these and if so do you have any info that may be useful?

Thanks for any help you could give us

    No..

Take readings and supply them the current suppliers and ask to be set up on a standard tariff with no exit fees.

Then ring Southern electric to switch you will need meter numbers, the reason i say this is because it can take up to 6 weeks to switch

Personally you will hear good and bad things about all the big six it really depends how often you need to talk to them. You will also find that on-line tariffs are cheaper still if you have internet access, some of the comparison website will allow some form of guestimation based on house type and living style.

Also get into the habit of supplying meter reading at least quarterly if not monthly that way you will be able to stay more in control

    Hi lurchio

Congrats on the new house.

Let us know you have taken over responsibility. As PeterDuckett says, tell us the meter readings when you move in.

This will allow us to open an account for you to accurate info.

As the current supplier, we will initially supply your electricity until you switch to another provider.

PeterDuckett is also correct about selecting a tariff with no cancellation fees or tie-ins.

As well as our standard tariff, there is the Track and Save product. This is a little cheaper than the standard tariff but still without any tie-ins or other costs.

Probably won't save you a lot but every little helps, particularly when you have just moved in to your first home.

Hope this helps and good luck with the house. :)
