i returned a couple of things last week & got a full refund on reduced items.
the back of the receipt states 'we will only offer an exchange on merchandise reduced by more than 50%' I have been caught out by that policy before, and am careful what i buy. mind you after reading the above i don't think i'll be bothering with debenhams again

As others have said, they legally do not have to take the non-faulty item back and therefore any offer to do so is a guesture of good will - the exception to this is if they have imposed any of their own terms and conditions on the sale which are enforcable as long as they dont infringe on your statutory rights.

The term "faulty" is not really the right word to use... items have to be of merchandisable quality and fit for purposes (this does consider price of the item) - as dmg24 says, almost every item will have some imperfection in them but this does not mean they are automatically not fit for purpose and therefore a tiny imperfection in the inner lining is unlikely to be considered to make the item unfit for sale.

Customers who take stuff back with slightly picked open seams, etc are viewed very dimly by most retailers. Two wrongs dont make a right.

Yes i did realise what you were saying, the point is,it will still be viewed the same way by the store-as trying to scam.I apologise-i wasnt suggesting you were advocating that- but simply stating there are loads of people who do do this-stores are very wise to it.
