Medical costs - I meant things like unforeseen dental work, if you don't have an NHS dentist it costs a small fortune, its expensive even if you DO have an NHS dentist! Buying new specs every few years, or the cost of contacts plus keeping a spare pair of specs witht the right prescription, it all adds up. Also ongoing costs like annual eye tests, dental tests.0

One more thing ..
I changed my life insurance to cavendish online.I found it on here.
I not only pay slightly less than I did for my original mortgage life insurance, but it doesn't reduce the cover as the mortgage goes down ..It pays the full ammount untill the end of the term.
I do hope my family do not get the benefit of this cover.but if they do then it would be a much better deal ..Especially as I'm over paying.
Which will be the next thing on your agenda if you keep hanging around this forum
Have you read up on cash back sites like Quidco ..Some great offers on Building and contents ..
I renewed this year with Churchill ..£50 cash back on the second lowest quote.
Last year was Avviva for a £70 cash back.
If you are getting electric , gas , internet or TV packages ..They all have good cash back ...This could easily get you a few hundred..Payout not instant ..But I think I am up about £750 at quidco so far that has all paid out.0 -

If you take out income protection when you know your job is at risk then that is fraud!0 -
Life insurance would probably be more if you are including critical illness cover.
Gas / elec could be on the low side if you have naff glazing on the windows and draughty lofts, but fine if you are naturally frugal on using power and shop around for a cheap supplier.
Water - is it on a meter or going with the council water rates? If on a meter, it is probably ok as long as you are not the sort of family who has 3 baths per day, multiple washing loads per day and don't water your garden with tap water.
Phone - line rental alone is £12, so you'd really need to shop around for cheap calls (totally possible, look at the guides on here) and hardly call mobiles or abroad at all for this price.
Broadband you can probably get cheaper than £15.
What sort of figures are you using for clothes, food, nappies, medical costs etc?
I have life insurance mortgage cover with critical illness cover (covering 35 rather than the standard 25) for £12.75 per month for me AND my partner.
Sainsburys bank - underwritten by legal and general. Saved me £35 per month from my previous supplier of life insurance
MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Plans_all_plans wrote: »I totally appreciate what you're saying freda, re the playgroups cost. In the £10 figure, I am including the more expensive weeks, when I take the little one to swimming and an indoor soft play area, as well as the local 50p/£1 community centre groups. If things got tough, swimming and indoor play areas would stop.
In terms of figures the lender has given us PER MONTH for a 3 bed 1970s terraced house:
Council Tax - £90 (accurate for the band) £131
Life Insurance - £15 Around the same i think but dh does this so not entirely sure
Home Insurance - £15 We pay yearly so as to cut it down..could you do that one bill out each month?
TV Licence - £13 Same
Electric - £40 £32
Gas - £50 £30
Water - £25 £32
Phone - £16 £19-99 that is B/Band as well.
Broadband - £15
Are these accurate-ish?
Just thought id'e add our costs aside yours as funny how they vary although not hugely different in total figures.! I agree if things get tough you can cut back on the creche's etc.0
