Moving to London - Where??

I live in a nice development in Deptford Bridge called oneSE8 there's always loads of flats for rent there and it's 12 mins to Canary Wharf on the DLR. Just down from Blackheath and about 5/10mins walk to Greenwich & Greenwich park. The development is cool it has an onsite gym and swimming pool.
I would avoid commuting on the Jubilee, DLR is all above ground and you can actually see things rather than the inside of the underground tunnels0 -
Canada Water too - one stop from Canary Wharf on Jubilee Line and lots of nice riverside and quay developments. It's a really peaceful place with a few pubs (not particularly great) and a Tesco etc, so convenient enough. It has a Wapping calm but lacks the pubs. You can run round Greenwich Quay. Not bad. Wapping is great - not so great for running. Definitely look at Greenwich - it's lovely and you could even walk to work through the pedestrian tunnel. Otherwise, West Hampstead means you are in north London which is certainly a good thing! I would avoid anywhere at all on the Northern Line as you will have to change at London Bridge during rush hour which is a dreadful way to start or end your day.0

I have friends who were renting at Canada Water until quite recently: they rented a two-bed two-bath apartment overlooking the water for £1k a month. I thought it was very nice and peaceful round there. Plus, there's the pub on a boat called the Wibbly-Wobbly within walking distance and a huge supermarket nearby
My niece has just moved into a flat-share in the same area and she's very happy there0 -
Limehouse.
South of Commercial Road is very nice and walking distance to Canary Wharf. Its a bit dear but a very nice place to live.
Where I to live in a flat in London, I'd live there.Mortgage debt - [STRIKE]£8,811.47 [/STRIKE] Paid off!0 -

Ah I see. I did wonder why Deptford and 'nice' were in the same sentance!! :rotfl:0 -
I'm another recommending Blackheath or Greenwich.
And I agree with Tony_R that Crystal Palace is nice-I've rented there for 4 years and am just buying my first place there (completing today eek).0 -

Hey, thats surrey quays then as my son used to have a house just opposite the wibbly wobblyThere is a small shopping development including a big Tesco just a short walk away.
He is now between Greenwich and Woolwich - another place to check out as there is massive development going on in the area to upgrade everything for the 2012 Olympics (including new DLR station up and running since January 09 and you can catch a Thames Clipper (river bus) to Canary Wharf.
I love the look of the Royal Arsenal development and also the Royal academy - both 18th century army barracks =- gorgeous buildings with gym, car share/hire and lots of delis and cafes now being added plus a hotel. Very attractive. You could always rent there (probably cheaper than Greenwich) whilst you have a good look round.

You could consider westferry which is halfway between limehouse and canary wharf. You can walk to canary wharf and the jubilee line, so you're not dependant on the DLR and there are plenty of buses into town.
In terms of facilities, canary wharf isn't that dead on weekends, although quieter than during the week and there are heaps of restaurants. There's a really good cinema there.. shopping too. And you can easily get to limehouse or into the city/west end.
Plus, it seems to be one of the only areas convenient for transport and still affordable to have a good view of the thames. And as others have mentioned, you can run along the river or up the canal to victoria park which is a lovely run.
If you want to go a bit cheaper but still have a nice flat, you could look out a bit further towards blackwall/royal docks along the thames. It's starting to get nicer although not as convenient for transport.
Ok I sound like a cheerleader for the area, but I'd recommend it- with the caveat that this is just my personal opinion0
