  • Hi everyone,

Thanks again for all the lovely welcomes and I'm presuming by the fact that no-one has shouted at me, that I'm doing okay?!?

The debt doesn't seem to be going down very fast - when I am only paying off £100 a month compared to £500+ like some people on here I do get disheartened - but at least its going in the right direction!

I get paid on Thursday and I am planning to restart my spending diary. Everything always seems to get more back to normal once September hits and I can start being a hermit again! Does anyone else find summer much more expensive than any other time of year - all those barbecues and drinks and birthdays and weddings!?!

We've just come back from being away and I am planning to spend the rest of the day looking for a new job and trying not to eat!

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

Just one ickle thing - do the PO stamps gain you any interest? I stick my £10 per month in an IF Savings Jar (4.4%) and that gets me my extra 50p over the six months for the £60.50 tax, actually it's a little more than that.
If a regular saver account would take that money - you could save for a year and probably get about 7% (Halifax) plus it's cheaper over the year.

Thanks Gemmzie, that's a great point. I'm planning to set up my ING saving pots very soon so I will definitely do car tax (and probably other car savings) in one of them - so will definitely take your advice there.

    Cheers!

Hi cake! Sounds like you are doing fine :)

One thing that did make me go 'blimey'!! is that you have 2k debt and are here.. but OH has 42k and isn't?

    How you coping with that?

And are you going to be forced to change your name to Ryvita? You really *are* making me have cravings.

I know, I know - needs his lightbulb moment! He is contributing to paying back the joint debts making normal monthly payments - but I'd like to get them paid off quick smart so we can move on with our lives - he'd rather sit on the sofa and watch the football. Once my personal debts are paid off, we are going to sit down and have a big chat about where we go from here and what we both want from the next few years...

Well, when you get to that point-we're here for you! Although I warn you, I do a huge number on the "nondebt" spouse developing their own emergency fund and seperate accounts instead of propping up the high spender.. but let's see how he goes after your talk!

You may have switched avatars off on the Control Panel (UserCP) worth checking and you also won't see avatars if you aren't logged in :)

Worth checking out the Telephone Boards regarding your telephone and internet costs as I am sure we can get that reduced for you.

I agree Emmzi I have to now go and open the Tesco Finest Chocolate Cake that I treated myself to today.

    :)

I have IF savings "jars" all labelled under different things - car tax, car insurance, bills

All linked to current account and get filled each month by internal transfer and can be instantly moved into the current account if needed.

My bills jar is the best one - after I get paid £42.99 gets moved in, on the 25th (day before bills) it moves back into current. I make about 10p interest which is then moved to my savings jar. Ditto Car Loan.

My savings jar has about £20 in it, purely from collecting the interest from other jars for a year  :T Can't be bad can it :D
