Piano removal cost ?

How much should I be looking to pay to have a second-hand piano collected from a house in the same town and delivered to us ? Should we use a 'proper' removal firm or a 'man and van with me helping' operation to save money ?

Use a specialist piano removal firm, not a normal removal firm. Pianos are a lot more delicate than you think.

We paid £120 for moving it from one side of Cwmbran to the other - about 2 miles - YMMV (pun intended)

I've had two pianos delivered.

One was a man in a van and one I did myself. Both pianos survived and, surprisingly, remained in decent state of tune.

I would go for the man in a van and budget for a tune afterwards. A van with a tail lift will make the job a lot easier.

BTW there is no way one man will move a piano!

Recently paid £120 for a specialist mover to collect from a basement flat (about 10 steps twisting) to Somerset. Arrived in tune and no (additional) damage. I doubt a man with a van would be much cheaper in that case so imo go with teh specialist.

all depends on the value of the piano. ive actually moved pianos on my own. not easy but possible.
lay some carpet on the van rear cill and tip the piano over on its back. then just slide it in the van.

i wouldnt do it with a 10000 quid grand piano!

I recently had a piano moved from Wirral to Liverpool (probably about 10 miles but under Mersey Tunnel & there would be tunnel fees) for £60 by a specialist piano moving company. I had been quoted around £100 - £120 by others.

They did say they were in teh area though - think they were from North Wales so think they just saw it as a bonus to the job they already had on.

I got this price by post a job on UShip - you post the job and hauliers bid for it.

Our local removal company has staff with certificates in piano moving and charge £60.

Nearly a year later I would expect that they've done it by now. New user ressurecting old threads to peddle the name of a company and a website seems a bit spammy to me. Sorry if I've misjudged you but FTTB this is spam IMO.
