Leaving Uni at the end of the first year then joining another?

Hi, I wondered if anyone here could help me.
I have applied to go to university in September and have accepted the place.
I’m really happy with the university but it’s quite far away from where I currently live (6 hours by train).
I have recently just discovered something that could mean I am needed at home a lot more in the future. This has come as a great shock and I am now re-looking at my future.
My question is, is it possible to go to the Uni for the first year (As the first year the situation will most likely be stable, but it could get worse in years to come) but then change for a Uni nearer home in the second and third year?

It's possible, however you'd need to get the transfer agreed between the universities.0

I did, but this was back in 2001. First year at one uni, then transferred back to my hometown uni for 2nd and 3rd for personal reasons. I had to check with hometown uni that they would accept me and then go via UCAS.

It very much depends on the universities and the courses as well as what units have been covered in the first year. Your other alternative ( depending on subject) would be to transfer to part time study with the OU who should give you credits for a successful year's study.0

My daughter is transferring at the end of this year after 1st year at another uni. She compared courses and found one with a similar first year and applied to transfer on to the 2nd year at the new uni. Would it be worth you checking courses locally to see if they are similar? She was accepted providing she gets a good overall mark for this year. HTH0
