How much should I pay for new windows?

I'm expecting a quote for some new windows from my existing builder and what to be in a position to assess whether it is reasonable or not.
There are a total of three windows to be replaced. They will be wooden framed, i.e. not UPVC due to planning regs.
The sizes are approx:
60cm*80cm
50cm*60cm
120cm*100cm
Thanks in advance.

generally each DG unit should be approx 400 quid as a guide price.
supply and fit.Get some gorm.0 -
Sorry, I should of mentioned they are single glazed.
Also is that figure an average as the largest window is ~3 times the area of the smallest.0 -
the single glass wont make that much difference to the overall installed price.
wooden frames need to be glazed after installing, and then painted. so the total price is probably on a par.Get some gorm.0 -

You can price them up using any of the above. This would give you a rough idea of what to expect. In fact I was at the factory of the second site today.-Keep your eyes to the sunshine and you would not see the shadows-

Thanks. I'll have look. I've got to admit - I was expecting significantly less than £400/window.0

The quote has come back at £2210 inclusive of VAT and fitting, which seems extraordinarily expensive compared to what I was expecting. Would that be the general consensus? The reason given was that "timber is very expensive".0

thats ridiculous!! admit it , hardwood is dearer then upvc, but not that much!!
i`ve been in the window game for over 20 years, so best advice is for you to shop around, go to a joinery itself and price them, you`ll be surprised!!
Even if they don`t fit them, they will reccomend a joiner to fit them for you!!0 -
Im a carpenter and make + fit bespoke windows. Expect each window to take 2.5 days to make = 7.5 days and 1 day to fit and glaze each with dressing (alot more work in dressing timber than upvc). so total is 10.5 days. Probably @ 150 p/day minimum with overheads and insurance. 10.5 x 150 = £1575 without including for timber.
2210 incl vat is cheap. People underestimate the amount of work in bespoke timber windows. PVC comes as a plastic section timber comes as a roughsawn plank.0 -
I don't discount that a proper bespoke window of high quality is going to cost you a fair bit, but that's not what I am potentially after in this case - just a simple new window.
Are you saying that it would take 2.5 days to make a single pane 500mm2 wooden framed window?
The links posted earlier in this thread would suggest that I could order such a window this afternoon if I so desired for < £200.0 -
didnt realise we were talking about bespoke windows here.
ie
wickes, wooden frames are from 250 quid, for say 600x1000. approx.Get some gorm.0
