low water pressure cant run hose up top of graden from outside tap

hi all

i live in a rural area with low water pressure , with a sloping 90ft garden , i have an outside tap and would love to run my hose to water poly tunnel at top of garden

at moment i fill up bins with buckets ( who needs keep fit classes :D ) I have a small hose dangling in the bins and "suck " to get watre coming through so i can water , either that or i fill up watering cans ,

my question is there antything i can attach at the ouside tap to get increased pressure up the hose ,?

if i run the pressure washer on i can get water through but its slow process and still have to run extension cable up garden to pressure washer

suggestions welcome cheers

    Suggestion #1;

Go to Amazon and search for Hozelock-3n1-Water-Butt-Pump - would something like this do? (first hit on Google for "Garden Pump")

...irritatingly I'm not allowed to post links... bah!

Basically I think you could run the hose from the outside tap to a water butt and then from the water butt use a pump to get the water up to the top of the garden - with the advantage that you can drop your downpipes to the butt and use rainwater when it's available.
  • Any idea of the vertical height difference from the tap to where you need it? I would have thought mains water supply must have a head of 3-4m

How is you outside tap plumbed in? 15mm copper tube off the main?

Have you ever contacted the water company to ask them if they can turn up the water pressure locally?

Well if the water supply company cant increase the pressure you are stuck with what you've got. You cant pump directly from the mains but you could fill a tank with water than pump from that (pretty much as suggested above).

Put your waterbutt next to the outside tap. Use the pump recommended above in the waterbutt and run a hose from this to where you need it.

This eliminates the need to run power half way across your garden and will give you the best fill rate for the waterbutt.

As jimbo's post, is it mains water supply to that tap? And what is the flow rate like from the tap (how long does it take to fill a bucket of water at the tap itself?)..as well as the tap at your kitchen sink? How is the tap plumbed in - is it one of those DIY self-cutting kits or is it plumbed in properly with 15mm pipe? Is the mains stop valve opened fully as well as any other valve to turn off the outside tap? Is the hosepipe in decent condition?

If it was mains water there wouldn't be a pressure problem

    thanks all for your help

my water is not on the mains its gets pumped into the house

the outside tap was fitted properly by a plumber and takes about 90 secs to fill a gallon bucket ( just tested it )

the hose is a new one it was quite expensive none kinking type (wanted to give the water flow its best chance )

the rise to top of garden is about 4 metres

i shall have a look at water butt pumps as this would save trailing electric up the garden

thanks all for your help much appreciated

How large is your tunnel and is it possible to fit a rainwater collection system to it? Allowing this to run rainwater of into butt's, barrels, cubes or adapted oil tank etc etc should give reasonable storage at point of use.
