New Flat - Best Deal - How do i compare?

My friend has just purchased her first home. A small one bedroom flat. We've spotted a few letters and it seems E.on was there last supplier and they owe a lot of money. The electricity is still on (thinking maybe not supplied by E.on as i'm sure they would have cut it off by now)

Anyway, my friend is investigating. What i want to know is how to find the best price when we don't have anything to compare?

I'm aware a friend had a flat an got quite a bad deal. It was where E.G - your first 1000 units was 19p then 10p after. but as he spent little time at home with work ect and the only one there he only even used e.g 7000 which meant he always paid the higher rate.

Trying to be watchful of this when finding the best supplier for the new flat. Does anybody have some advice?
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

Hi misssarahleigh - It's vital that your friend phones Eon to advise them she is the new owner and what the meter reading was when she moved in, and, because there is outstanding debt from the previous owner she should confirm it all in writing.

Because she is the new account holder, Eon will put her on thier "Standard" tariff, which is not the cheapest option, so she should ask what other tariffs are available, but she should be aware that the cheapest tariffs usually have a 'Lock-in' period which may not be the best for her at the moment, as when she has an idea of what her consumption really is - after say 6 months - she can search the whole market

She is going to contact them. It's a flat and there are around 20 of them. Problem is the estate agents are flipping slack and still haven't found out where the meter is (i assume it will be centralised)

She has a post box (but no key) and the water is still working. A lot to change i know and going to do it all in writing.
