antispyware etc help needed

Hi: I had Avast running in the background on my computer. It was running really slowly so I thought It had been infected by a virus or spyware etc etc. I ran all the checks you can imagine. I did find some bugs but this was not the answer. Finally, I uninstalled Avast and hey presto I have my computer running like a dream!!!0
