American Express Cashback Wiped

My American express cashback balance was reset to zero on 9th May with the description "Auto Redemption Threshold Forfeiture". Does anyone know what this means?
I pay the balance of the card off in full each month, and have chosen to have the cashback credited directly back to the account, which it has been in the past.
Is there some bizarre rule which says if you don't earn enough cashback they won't pay it? It was something like £4.00 odd.

I've never spent anything approaching £3k on this card.
I've had the account for two years, and the cashback has always been credited (in small amounts) to the account before, so if this 3K spend rule you are talking about applied to my account how come I previously received cashback as surely I shouldn't even have qualified?
I'm glad that you derive humour from my paltry £4.00 cashback, but I thought the whole point of moneysaving was that even small amounts saved are worthwhile?
As you seem to enjoy poking fun at the "small fry" he's something else for you to roll about laughing about. My Quidco balance is just £8. Happy now?0 -
It also says on statements that they won't pay cashback if the total cashback for the year is less than £25. It doesn't say whether they roll it over or wipe it. I had a total of £115 cashback on my statement last year, mostly because of the 5% for the first 3 months (I used it to buy my rail season ticket). My £115 cashback disappeared on the anniversary date!!:rotfl:
So it looks like you have to have at least £25 cashback AND spend over £3000 to actually receive it.I've never spent anything approaching £3k on this card.

Good point Trukdiver.
Sorry to hijack the thread but have you been to Truk ? I'm planning on a holiday there and wanted some advice about the diving. Assuming they don't have any Trimix. Pm me if you have any details please.

I think I'm in a similar situation fallen121! I'll expect a cancellation too then!0

The rules have clearly changed.
You probably would have got a "terms and conditions" leaflet that you put in the recycling.
That's not a put down, I'm just saying that's probably what happened.
I got my card in Novemeber and I knew about the rule then, but I can't say when it came in.0 -
I had over £100 of cashback pending and just missed the £3k spend limit!
Ah well, thankfully I treated the cashback as a bonus type income
Never again. Can't wait to cancel this current card.0 -
Interesting that someone contributed to this thread after so long because I was thinking of deleting it! In November 2011 Amex wrote to me to say that they were cancelling the card, which at the time had a nil balance. I used the card mainly to pay for hotels whilst travelling on Company Business and would generally pay off the balance immediately I received my expenses, so I never paid any interest.
Anyhow, Amex never gave me any choice in the matter, they told me to cut up the card as they would be closing the account within the next ten days.
And that was that.0 -
AmEx cards have pretty poor customer service, and seem to change the Ts&Cs without bothering to inform the card-holder.
That said, I can't see any minimum threshold on cashback payments in their current Ts&Cs:

If you've the original cashback card (which I've got) then the terms and conditions aren't on their web site - best give them a call.0
