after being an existing customer? I closed my current account with A&L has I can't stand them and there charges ar rip off, I got stitched up so many times on an account that wasn't my main one I wanted to get rid...
BUT.. now my Barclays (main account) have said I no longer have a Graduate account it's now a standard one.. so I figure I should make use of A&L 0% OD. I plan to start paying off my OD early next year. I closed the account with A&L.. if an year has elapsed will I be classed as a new customer? Or is the period longer or shorter?
Can I still use my Barclays as my main account and transfer £500 a month to A&L.. TBH I'll be making £350 payments amonth to the OD anyways so I only need to transfer £150.. is this ok to do???
Thx
Sara

The new customer cut-off period is just 3 months. There is no problem not using A&L as your main account. If you are looking to open the Premier Direct account, all you need to do is make sure £500/month is paid in from a non-A&L account.0

sorry to ask this but is information definately correct- this is really important- apparently a&l are going to offer 12% savings account from sept. if i close a%l now and reapply in december would they regard me as new customer. could i then take advantage of that offer & all other perks ?The new customer cut-off period is just 3 months. I am basing this partly on the 'Important information' section of the A&L Premier Direct page here.To be eligible for Premier Regular Saver at a rate of 10.00% gross p.a./AER applicants must not currently hold any Alliance & Leicester current account and applicants must not have held any Alliance & Leicester current account in the three months preceding a new Premier / Premier Direct Current Account application.
There seems to be some consensus on these boards that 3 months is the general timescale A&L have used in the past to separate out new customers from existing ones. I'm convinced, but you might want to wait for the account to launch and check the new T&Cs if you are concerned.0 -
