Right, how do you lot book holidays in advance when one of you are in the army?
My fiance is a soldier, we've been together for years and have a 4 year old but have never went on a proper family holiday yet cos we've never been able to afford to ( buying a house, getting first car e.c.t) He's currently in afhgan and we've decided we really want to take our wee one to florida next year the thing is he is never given a definate date for leave, sometimes it's a week later than he's first told, sometimes it's cut short e.c.t how the hell are you supposed to book a holiday when the army can't guarantee leave dates?
thanks in advance.

You either take out good insurance or you go last minute.0

Emms is pretty much right. If he's in Afghan he should get post tour leave so you should be able to get a good idea of leave dates but always expect last minute hiccups.
In honesty, I wouldn't book a holiday to somewhere like Florida unless you're certain you'll be able to go. I booked a holiday to Majorca while hubby was in Afghanistan for his leave and luckily we got it but if we didn't we wouldn't have lost thousands.0 -
You can get insurance to cover loss of holiday due to service reasons.
Get him to speak to his CoC and ensure they know that he's going on an expensive holiday during his leave, not sitting in the back garden.0 -
Unless his unit is unique in not planning it, he will know his POTL dates well before deployment. It is what you spend the days counting down to (apart from EOT) when in Theatre.
He should just check with his CoC (Pl / Tp Comd) and get the details from the Unit Forecast of Events.0 -
She said next year so we're not talking POTL etc, just normal leave.
Z1985, at the start of the leave year, get him to ask if its ok. If they say yes then book it. Simples! As people have mentioned you can insurance, plus you can claim "nugatory holiday" something something (its in JSP 752 methinks) if you can't go in the end. But if hes squared it through his Chain of Command he should be ok unless something major comes up0
