How to keep next door's cat off my lillies?!

Ok, I am a cat person, I don't have one right now but next-doors do, a cute black 18m old male. We don't have a garden as such, just a small yard with pots and a wooden table & bench set.

He has taken a liking to curling up in my pots, not such a problem - except that these pots have lillies in (and have had for about 4 years now so well established).

Several bits of the new growth have been squashed or bent.....the little minx!

How can I dissuade him from snoozing in them, whilst not scaring him off altogether (because when next doors are away I am his carer!)?? Maybe something spikey on the compost? Or a nasty-to-cats smell that won't stink me & OH out of our small back yard?

Anyone got any ideas?

Cats hate he smell of orange peel or anything citrusy so you could try placing some peel in the containers.

They also hate menthol smells, olbas oil is a particularly nasty one for my two kitties!

An upturned wire hanging basket over a circular pot works like a charm. The plants will grow through it, and personally, I think it looks nicer than twigs, but mine are old and slightly rusty and it suits my garden. I don't suppose it's a look that would work with black and steel...

I would just use the green sticks for supporting plants, pushed in and cut down to size.

Lily pollen is very toxic and cats have died after licking it from their fur. You may feel it is going beyond the call of duty to remove the stamens though!

Thanks for this - but the poor plants won't even get to pollen stage if he keeps curling up next to / on them!
