raspberry fail

I bought two different kinds of raspberry canes earlier this year. I put them to bed at the recommended depth with a handful of chicken manure pellets and sat back to wait. Out of 12 canes only one has produced any growth at all.
So do you think I could take photos of said twigs in the ground along with the garden centre labels back to the garden centre and ask for replacements? What do we think?

The raspberries I have sprout as new shoots from the ground rather than growing from the previous years growth that I've cut back.

They usually start coming out the ground around march, so maybe the ones you planted missed their chance this year? They might come up next year, they're pretty prolific.

Btw, I have one plant that produces a lot of fruit. Unless you're some kind of dealer, you're going to be sick of raspberries with 12 plants :D.

One of the canes has growth from the base so I know they should be growing. We had one lot that totally failed and one cane from the others. That's a rubbish hit rate.
Btw - we have an allotment between three families and three toddlers under 2. We eat a LOT of berries ;)

I'd hold on a while - you probably won't get all 12, but it has been a colder winter (so the ground is colder) and apart from a bit of sun in April has remained pretty cold which will have slowed down growth. My first set planted two years ago did very little in the first year, and then took off like rockets last year so I have 6ft raspberries. The new autumn ones I put in this year are just about starting to show some growth on the ones that get the most sun - the ones more in the shade haven't responded yet.

I'd leave them another week, then if no signs of life ,scrape the bark, see if its gren underneath. If the canes dead up root and return to garden centre. good luck.

If some have grown then you've planted them right.

Don't be too hasty, they can take their time and come up at different speeds.
