Another Boiler Quote

Greetings all, so after having my lovely Powermax boiler condemned last week I have now received quote off the said company who condemned it. Ours is a 4 bed house, ensuite family bathroom, downstairs lav etc... we have been quoted £2540 for the following:
supply and fit Valliant EcoTec 831 with vertical flue & clock,
supply and fit thermostatic vales to all radiators (13 of these),
supply and fit replacement double radiator,
flush and inhibit system,
remove and dispose of redundant materials
commission system
3 year warrenty
apart from being told by everyone these are the best boilers.. does this sound suitable for this amount of rooms etc? and how long roughly would this install take? It is going in an airing cupboard where existing boiler is, so gas, water, electric, flue are already there. Property is in South Wales. Any thoughts gratefully received, thanks in advance

These are very good boilers, but far from the best.
The boiler is plenty big enough to heat your house comfortably, although you may experience a slightly poorer flow of hot water from your taps.
I assume your proposed installer has checked the flow rate/cold mains pressure?
If you had 16 l/min or more, I would suggest paying the extra and go for the 837. If you haven't, then stay with the 831.
The price is good as well.0 -
I agree with the above.......
The price is reasonable but you could probably find cheaper. Too cheap and you get a crap job with corners cut.
As an installer my preferred choice is Viessmann. I consider them the best. If you buy either a Viessmann, Vaillant or Worcester Bosch you won't go far wrong. Another boiler i'm seriously thinking of trying is a Remeha. They seem to be good bit of kit. Small, light and very quiet.
Avoid the likes of Ideal, Potterton, Glow Worm, Ferroli, Biasi....etc etc0 -
I fit approx 4-6 Remehas a month. Had a few minor problems with a few, but generally I find them a good boiler and excellent value for money.
If you want the best of the best, then ATAG have no competition.
Intergas are very good as well.0 -
Being in London , I have been quoted the below:
Remove old boilder - ground floor, all tanks in attic, and remove all 7 radiators + pipes.
Replace with Vallient Eco tec boiler, new 250lt Megaflow ( bits pre fitted ) tank. Boiler and tank fitted to new loaction , mid floor. All new 22mm pipe where needed, new radiators with correct btu per room size + valves.
All work certified,
3 bed mid ter home with loft and rear ext added.
Cost £8500 all inc
Revised price £7000 using plastic pipesto reduce cost and time, and 2 verticle radiators + towel rail not included.
Also can choose a Worcester boiler instead of Valliant.
Note - the house is to be reflored , plastered, wired, as make good will not be too critical as its all going to be done anyways.
I hope this helps, I tried and tried to bring the cost down , but not budging. So question is is £7000 good, and also are plastic pripers better or copper...new tec vs the old tec?0 -
My main concern would be to question the megaflo size.
Why, in a 3 bed house would you need a 250 litre one?
If you have the standard one bathroom/shower I would go with the 170 litre size at the most.0 -
Hi, to answer your question
1 x wc ground floor
1 x wc mid floor
1 x wc + bath mid floor
1 x wc + shower top floor
I am aware that a smallwe tank may be enough, but we have the space for the 250 tank.
Still searchin is the cost for the job competative?
AND are there any issues with not using plastic to the copper?

1 bath and 1 shower will be ok with a 170litre.
If you go too big it will be energy inefficient, heating up then re-heating the same water you didn't use the time before so to speak.
I think the price is a bit high, even with plastic pipe, but then you are in London and your builder will be adding his profit to the heating chaps price to him.
I would have thought around the £5000 + VAT would be more like it.
Plastic pipe, fitted correctly, will be as good as copper0 -
The Vaillant boiler is good, but certainly not the best. What is not good, is the service of the company. In fact, it is so bad that I have categorically refused to deal with them any longer, and have completely stopped installing thme.
Hard to comment on the quote without seeing the job, but the amount does not seem excessive.0
