ok, so Powergen is the latest company to have announced yet another price rise.
However does anyone know or have any idea, just how much extra revenue has been given to the Treasury because of the utility price rises over recent years?
It seems that this fact has not arrived on anyone's radar!!

Good point - here's the link

must be eyewatering - just like the tax gleaned from us poor motorists who are paying nearly £1 for each litre of fuel - Gordon's helping himself to about 70p of that so he can put together packs telling dads to take their children on picnics.Overpay!0 -
Sssssshhhhhhhhh everyone - Gordon's only taking 5% VAT on our fuel bills. If he smells an opportunity, he may increase the rate, and we don't want that.
Did I hear someone say he might scrap the 5%? Don't be funny0 -
does anyone still really believe that the tax payer will ever benefit from any government we elect?0

btw some dad's want to do those picnics and more, much more. sexism blows both ways. I hope I am wrong about your reference.0 -
If Gordon increased the vat on fuels, the poll tax riots would look like walk in the park! IMHOThere's always someone bigger and better, smarter and stronger but there's only one YOU!:j0

But that hasn't happened with the Big Council Tax Theft - which in my opinion is far worse. I think in this country we are now so used not to getting value for money that we'll put up with any rip-off, no matter how large.0 -

Not trying to start a row here! My point (badly phrased, perhaps) was that we're being heavily taxed, and the money doesn't seem to be wisely spent. I referred to the recent dads' booklet, because it seemed to me that any advice that a dad would need comes from real life, not from some booklet. Also the dads that would benefit from this advice are not the ones who would read government advice.
Sorry for going off topic, but just am a bit perturbed that my comments about tax are being read as sexist.Overpay!0 -
 We've got tory chancellor Norman lamont to thank for the original 7.5% vat tax on fuel. Which I've always thought of as a nasty little antisocial tax. When trying to keep warm or light our darkened houses in the winter there is no choice.
The tories say that the benefit of how VAT works is that the decision to buy is always the consumer's at the point of sale as to whether to make the purchase or not.......ho hum0
