how cheap can you motor for
Options
cars are expensive . repairs are expensive. fuel is expensive . insurance is expensive.
personally i have better things to spend my money on.
my current car is a Mazda 323 which i purchased for £250 Two years ago. 85k on clock when i brough it. 15k later and still starts first time every time.
insurance= £120-£140 a year. 3rd party f+t
1.5L so not the best on petrol but i use website to find cheapest prices.
repairs = Zero it breaks i just get something else (japanese for definate)
mots+ minor repairs and servcing = £200 over 2 years.
it may be a bit ugly to look at my car but you can get through traffic when people know your not scared of denting it let me tell you.
cars cost as much as you let them cost you IMO
new/expensive cars only lead to DEBT if you don,t have the money to pay for them DEPRICATION on a grand scale if you do.
who's the mug me for driving what you won't or you ????? my bank account makes me feel very pleased that my money dosen,t go DOWN the car black hole
any other thrifty car owners please let us know your storys

As a basic principle you're right. Previously, I spent around £1k to £2k on various cars and had little or no trouble with them. Especially, as you say, with the Japanese ones.
Then I got a car allowance from work and decided to trade up. I paid £3,000 for a Peugeot 406 and it ended up costing me nearly as much again when the gearbox failed. In the end I wished I'd stayed with my Toyota Carina that cost me £900 and never caused a problem.
The issue is, that there are two types of car owners, one who sees it as a device to get them from A to B, and the other sees it as something to enjoy driving and owning. I suspect you are the former, I am the latter.
I've waited (fairly) patiently to be able to afford a car I like and although it cost me nearly £8,500, I'm very happy with it.
As Martin :money: says, good money saving is about getting what you want at the best price whilst living within your means. I'm very happy to be doing this. :T

good for you. if thats what brings you pleasure and what you wish to spend your money on i applaud you sir . i totally agree with martin :money: on this as well but so many people pay too much for their motoring that they cannot afford cause they know no other way it seems
your right i do see a car as a way to a-b and nothing more but i,m tried of people moaning cause they have got in to much debt cause they have to have expensive reliable car. it dosen,t have to be that way as my approach to car ownership proves. you obviosly can afford your car but does it not make wonder how people on 13k a year can run a car costing that much???
i enjoy the thriftyness of my car running and would like to to hear other other stories from people on the subject.
your right though no one makes cars to last like the japanese.
whats your car by the way???Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
