Currys responsibility??!

Hi,
My daughter bought a washing machine from Currys 16/12/09.
It broke down in March
2 weeks wait for engineer and 2weeks wait for part. repaired 6/4/10
Broke down again yesterday.
Phoned Currys who said phone Beco who said phone Currys etc!
Went in to shop who could not help at all!
Phoned Currys customer service who said they will get repairman out to assess problem again as it is up to Beco to repair or replace and it is only the SECOND repair!!
I quoted Sale of Goods Act...they insisted it is up to the manufacturer! Surely one expects a washing machine to last longer than 3 months before it needs a repair?!
Wot's it all about?!! Of course they willingly took my daughter's money when she bought the machine and even managed to persuade her to purchase additional insurance cover! She has a hyperactive 2yr old and is due to have a caesarian on Monday. Is it right that she will have to go along with what they are saying and once again be without a working machine until Currys and Beco sort it out between themselves?

I thought s... but I just don't see how you can get them to when they are point blank saying there is nothing they can do other than get a repairman.

Surely if you have the Whateverhappens cover, you'd have got an engineer out in a couple of days?

She has got the Whateverhappens cover but it still took them 2 weeks to get the engineer out and two more weeks for him to return with a part. Is it even right that she should have to go through this again when the machine is still only 5 months old?

    Directly from the info online:

We’ll come to you – If we can’t
fix the problem over the phone,
we’ll visit you 2 working days after your
c all or at a later date that is convenient for you.

We’ll fix or replace it – Sometimes we won’t be
able to fix the product there and then, but we will
guarantee to fix the problem within 21 days of our
    e ngineer’s visit or we’ll give you a replacement.

Not sure about SOGA, and it doesn't sound like you are 100% clued up on it, so I'd be very careful quoting that at them.
Just started comping - 1/12/08 - keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks for that mjgreen. The sale of goods act states that the seller ie the retailer is responsible for putting right any goods that are faulty within the first 6 months after purchase if it is not due to wear and tear. They are the people whom the consumer has taken out a contract with not the manufacturer.

Unless you live in Australia, I'd be having words with the WH people...

Does the Sales of goods act not mention inconveniance?, The retailer has the right to get the machine repaired but must not inconveniance the customer. I would say 4 week with out a washing machine is inconvieniant if you are pregnant and have children. I would be on the phone every day demanding a replacement or compensation for having to wash clothes else where or even ask for a loan machine.
