10hrs work and jsa.

Have made a claim for jsa as temp job recently ended..In the meantime i have been offered a job only 10 hours a week at minimum wage £58 (again temp) which is less than the jsa... of £64.30..Thats £6.30 shortfall.
Will i still have to sign on at the dreadful place to get the shortfall and the other benefits like H/B etc...

Thankyou for advise

You'd still have to sign on to get the difference in your jsa and wage plus whatever the 'keep' allowance is of the jsa. You'd still have to fulfill the commitment to be seeking full time work as well.

the disregard for jsa is £5 if single or £10 if a couple.

If i could afford to lose What will be about £11 i would never go back,,, I have spent a lifetime caring for a parent ,then children and until a year ago a husband for several years.Im 53 on my own now and not much chance of getting a good job....I enquired about full time retraining but i have to be unemployed for 6 months before that can happen... I wonder how demoralised i will be by then !!!

Oh God, I know what you mean, I was there for an hour today, my first time ever, and it was just horrid.. erghh.. :(

Have you looked at their DirectGov website? I find applying for everything you think you are capable of is good.. just firing off a CV.

Also, a short hour job could turn into a better one eventually.. can you do local dog walking to make up the shortfall? or a small cleaning job?

Hi, you shoudl double check that training information that you were given. I don't know if it's the same all over the UK, but in my district in Wales, customers have day one eligibility for skill build courses. Local colleges offer these courses in various things from construction to travel & tourism, health & social care etc. A lot of the courses say that anyone who has GCSEs and above can't do them and that's what we as JCP staff were told, but when I phoned up one college to query whether a customer could go on an NVQ course for carers even though she had quite a few quals already, he told me that they can take people on the courses providing they don't already have qualifications in that field.
Hope that helps, and good luck with the job hunt.

Oh and to everyone who's had bad experiences in job centres, we're not all like that - honest!! I try to make things as pleasant as possible for customers cause I remember what it was like signing on for 6 months last year.

Im sure not every office is the same i wont tar you all with the same brush.. I think feeling a little discouraged and inadaquate at the moment makes you somewhat sensitive..
GEE GEE i have today applied for 3 cleaning jobs over the phone...All answer machines so am waiting for replies... Dog walking ...They would have to be small ones or they would be taking me for a walk:)

athenajm... Wow you seem to have loads to offer in wales....... Here its the 6 month rule but i am 53 and was asking about the 50+ deal...They did offer me NACRO but quite honestly i feel thats not for me... The other option is Learning direct they have one in my library for english and maths...Although i am perfectly literate its evidence of the fact...I did ask about a one day course at colleage and my goodness you would have thought i was asking for a day of at a spa...Lots of huffing and puffing and remarks like well thats a day you wouldnt be available for work !!!
I have applied for lots of jobs and hopefully something with more hours will come along......
