New Bathroom Quote

amaidment
My fiancee and I got the keys to our first house on Friday and we're now looking to completely replace the bathroom. We (perhaps naively) went to Wickes thinking their price would be reasonable and whilst the fixtures/fittings seems pretty good, their installation cost seems extortionate!
The room is about 1.7mx2.2m and we're looking for:
- Bath, Toilet and Sink to replace the existing ones, with no movement of them.
- Thermostatic shower fitted (one doesn't currently exist).
- Removal of existing carpet and fitting of new tiled floor.
- Removal of existing tiles and fitting of new tiles along all walls.
- Replace radiator with new radiator towel rail (not an electric one).
- Fitting of a shower pump (one doesn't currently exist).
All the parts (pottery/bath, taps, tiles, adhesive, shower, towel rail etc) came to around £1k as we've chosen fairly cheap items that we like.
However, their charge for all the rest of the work (removal of old bits, fitting/tiling etc) was £3.3k and that seems huge. That's roughly broken down as:
Removal of old pottery/bath and installation of new ones - £1.6k
Decoration/tiling/fitting of pump/shower - £1.7k
That's based on around 14sqm of wall tiles (maybe a bit high) and 2sqm of flooring.
We're based in Kent/South East London (around Swanley/Dartford) so does that seem expensive? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for local bathroom fitters?
Cheers

Good afternoon: have you had quotes from independents so you can compare like for like? If you can't get a recommendation from colleagues, friends, neighbours, you could try the CIPHE.
You are based in a pricier part of the world tbh.

Unfortunately I don't live that close to work, and no-one we know has had a bathroom fitted recently except through one of the big companies (like Wickes, B&Q etc).
Does anyone have any recommendations for companies I could use? I've looked on the CIPHE website but they're just plumbers rather than bathroom fitters and I'd prefer 2 rely on one person rather than calling in 3 or 4 different traders.0 -
We haven't had any other quotes yet as we only had the quote from Wickes yesterday. I've spoken to one company who gave a (very rough) quote of £1600-2400 for installation, but said they'd need to come see the room for a proper quote, which is fair enough.

Good evening: many members of the CIPHE (my OH included) have a broad skills set and fit bathrooms. Quotes should be based on a site survey and discussions with the prospective client at the property.
Good luck with your project

Recently had a quote myself for 4k from B&Q. Local independant firm came out and quotes £4300, however he is offering so much more than the original quote. IMHO the DIY places don't match up once their install prices are totted up.0

oh you want the electrics bodged then0 -
we use https://www.checkatrader.com and so far have not been disappointed (only a few jobs mind), my parents have had a few jobs done too through them.
Get at least 3 quotes and if one quote is significantly cheaper then alarm bells should ring
get more quotes if you are unsure.
They should give you a checkatrader feedback leaflet before the job begins and remember to fill it in and send it back
Hope it goes well (we are doing similar at the moment)
