hi all,
i am looking to set up a small business online selling nappy cakes and baby gifts. I had a meeting with a business coach from be enterprising and i need to know how many people are actually buying nappy cakes and how many people would be intrested in purchasing them in the future.
i would be so grateful if people could answer a few questions for me please.
have you bought a nappy cake in the past?
would you consider buying a nappy cake in the future?
what budget would you have for a nappy cake?
A £10-£20
B £20-30
C £30-£40
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to reply.

I haven't bought one in the past.
I would consider buying one in the future.
Budget would depend on recipient. Family £20-30, friends £10-20.

I bought a nappy cake for my SIL when she had my niece three years ago. They were pretty new then and it was an expensive one - quite luxurious as I recall. I bought it online after seeing it in the Mail on Sunday. Cost about £100 I think...0

I've never bought one, but would consider buying one in the future. I would say the same as pinkpig08 - it would depend on the recipient as to how much i'd spend. £20-30 would be the average though.
Hope that helps out0 -
I was so intrigued I had to google this! I've never heard of them either and initially thought it was yucky or pointless. However, now I've googled, I think it's a lovely idea as it includes lots of useful and nice things. I would say this would be a good gift choice for a group of work-mates to club together to give to a new parent.
I would agree £20-£30 but that said I'm sure there are more affluent people who would happily pay over £100.
You'd have to pitch it well... and I don't know quite how you'd market it. The thing that struck me first was that the name nappy cake didn't even suggest to me what it actually was. From what I saw on google (where it was also listed as a diaper cake) I would guess this is an American idea and possibly I'm not the only one over here who had no idea what it was about. So I would guess it's not something people would instantly think of when looking for what present to buy, and many people who have to do the buying are not going to be up to date with the latest trends in baby gifts so they may not think of this idea either.
What I'm trying to say is I think it's a nice idea but I think you'd have to present it to people because I don't think they'd think of it on their own.0 -
two of my friends have just had a baby - and now that you mention it I am actually going to go and buy this for them.
Do you sell them already?0 -
Sounds like a good idea just not sure about the name. It seems like the phrase "Nappy Cake" is a bit confusing. Or maybe that's because we who haven't heard of it are older and not around people having babies?
Tbh I thought it was an actual cake you were making that looked like a nappy! lol If you'd said "Nappy Hamper" or "Baby Hamper" I would probably have twigged what your product was more readily.
Anyway, have you checked out the major mum-to-be/baby/toddler outlets like Mothercare, Boots, (and there's a something-R-Us place -sorry brains gone) places like that anyway, to see if they already sell this type of bundle already? If not, then maybe you could become a supplier to them.
You could also consider hosting "Baby Showers", again more American but catching on over here now I think (well I assume seeing as I have heard of them!).
Hope that helps some.
Oh and if I had the money and knew of someone having a baby I would buy one but I'm poor and in debt so currently I'd probably buy a few bits n bobs over several weeks to makeup a box of baby bits. Sorry.
