I put my utility bills on excel so I can work out if its right

I get a small discount for energy supplier each month it doesn't equate to much but can never figure out how its derived from them, it obviously depending on usage

see screenshot I can get finally bill works it out using formulae but always rely on exact figure from my bill I get sent via internet account

The column discounts is the only I am unsure with

so say based on figures I shown in screenshot

ie3vsx7pm9gbxngbmtuk.jpg

Pay in £48
£39 energy used
discounts would be?

Its before vat is added later which is taken care of in formula
=SUM(K3-L3)*5/100

K3 being energy used
L3 being discount

Hope its clear enough :) Thanks

I doubt you can infer an exact formula from those figures. It looks to be roughly 3% of 'Energy used'.

    Hi,

here's how Scottish Power work their discount on a daily basis,

*The Online Energy Service discount is only available to customers with up to three meters and three registers (ScottishPower and Manweb supply areas), or with a single or two meter (all other supply areas). Annual discounts of £5.00 (excl. VAT), £5.25 (incl. VAT) for gas and £10.00 (excl. VAT), £10.50 (incl. VAT) for electricity. The annual discount is shown on your bill as a daily amount of 1.369p (excl. VAT), 1.437p (incl. VAT) for gas and 2.740p (excl. VAT), 2.877p (incl. VAT) for electricity. Prices correct as at 2nd February 2008.

I roughly worked out about just over 3% but still couldn't get the right answer to tally with the other known bills

Percentages arent my strong point in fact maths isnt either ;)

I am with British Gas just like to work it out for my own peace of mind

Can you not just ask British Gas?

Yes I just did but still stuck

Its based on tier 2 1.361 per kWh up to £9.53 per quarter but this discount also includes gas but only shown on electric bill. Complicates it even further is I get billed monthly not quarterly

and I appear to have 2 tiers and a null tier

Given the discounts are in the link from frugalmacdugal are all based upon energy usage in kWh, I think you need to find you usage at each different tariff rate and factor this into the calculations.

    EDIT

you've made a post while I was comprising this one

If you consider 42 kWh @ 1.429 discount + 34 kWh @ 1.429 discount you get £1.14 - this matches the 2nd discount your original post - are these the same period?

    Thanks for your input

I aint worried about a couple of quid and your right it isnt worth worrying

I just wanted to figure it out but think I decided it isnt worth pursuing any longer

I will probably just as I am doing now manual input the discount off the bill after all its only a quid or two. I have to manual change the clarification equation as that's variable due to utility company changing it, I really just wanted it all set automatically just input meter readings and it worked it out but I guess is much harder than I thought and probably not worth the aggravation
