Problem formatting Micro SD card

Hi Guys,
I recently got a new phone (HTC Desire) after having the HTC G1 for the past 18 months and since I got an 8gb card with the G1 and only a 4gb with the Desire I decided to swap them. However, somewhere along the way my 8gb card has become corrupted. It kept freezing my phone (if the phones screen went dark it wouldn't wake up again until I took the card out, did it on both phones). So I bought a cheapo Micro SD card reader from eBay thinking I could load it up on the laptop and format it. Doesn't work though. The card reader works fine, it loads up the memory card and I can view the files on it but can't move them, delete them or anything. It won't allow me to format the card using windows format tool, and explorer ends up crashing in the end and I have to reboot the laptop to be able to see the memory card again. I have also tried HDD Guru Low Level Format Tool and that didn't work. It said it had formatted but then the files were still there and windows couldn't format it still.
Any ideas on how to force format it? Surely it can't be completely knackered, there must be some way fo sorting it.
Anyway, thanks for any help.
Chris

What brand of card is it - if it's a decent make there might be a utility on the manufacturers website.
I take it you've tried formatting it through your phone? The only other thing I can think to try is get an Ubuntu disc - you can run it from disc so don't have to install it and try formatting it in there. Ubuntu also has a great partition manager so if the card shows up in there you might be able to erase it.0 -
Try HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197
Should be able to see the SD card in the reader. Does sound like the SD card may be broken though.0
