Getting NI Stamps paid

I am married, currently at home looking after daughter, son at school, husband works full time, so i am not entitled to any benefits, though we do get a small amount of CTC and CB.

I was told that i should go to the jobcentre and sign on, but not for claiming anything, just so i can get my NI stamps paid towards my pension. Someone else said i dont need to as by getting CB i am getting home responsibilty allowance, but if i was working and still getting CB would i still be getting it and exactly what is it? Is it the equivalent of NI stamps??

It's not very clear, who is right?
Thanks
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

You might be entitled to working tax credit, put you're details into

    www.entitledto.com

You're stamp will be paid for you if you claim home responsibility through child benefit, but dont just sit back and assume that you will be getting it.

I claim it through CB and was sent a form to fill in and was sent a confirmation letter shortly after, sorry I cant give you a number to call cause I will have to jump head first into my filing system to find the paper work :o but you could ring the CB office and go from there :)

HRP works differently from credits and shoudl be going on automatically , once a valid CB claim is confirmed.

Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) goes on to your account whether your working or not, if you claim CB.

If you have HRP on record for a year, it will be used to preservce your NI record , if you dont have the years already covered by earnings or credits.

HRP isn't the direct equivalent of NI credits - a year of NI credost gives 1 year towards your state pension - so if for example you had 11yrs of credits, you'd get 11/44th or 25% state pension.

HRP works differently, it reduces the number of years you need for a full state pension, so for example if you had 10yrs of NI credits and 5yrs of HRP, you'd get 10/(44-5)th or 26%, whereas if you only had 10yrs of NI credits and no HRP, you wouldnt get any state pension.

You wouldn't get JSA credits unless you where looking for work.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
