Contacting - and asking - exisiting cards about a new rate?

Options
Hi people,

I wondered if anybody had experience in asking their current providers of credit cards if they can offer them a balance transfer deal?

I saw Martin on GMTV a couple of months ago about speaking to your existing credit card provider and saying you have a balance to transfer - and, as they want your business - they might offer you something?

I wondered if anybody has done this, and could offer advice? Such as how to approach it on the phone, that sort of thing?

I've got a good record with Halifax, and have always paid on time, so I can't see why they wouldn't go for it?

  • Hiya,

There's a "sticky" on this near the top of the forum - something like "Balance Transfer deals for existing customers". Worth a read.

I think it's always worth a try - and some people have rung and asked, been turned down, then rung again straight away and spoken to someone else and been given an offer! So it seems pretty unpredictable and hard to know what to advise about an approach.

You might get an idea though by reading the thread on it, above, as I say.
