UPS Delivery Scam

Not of the email type though......had an InfoNotice from UPS through the door saying they had tried to deliver a parcel. It also states that I owed £32.01 COD Collect on Delivery fee. The item weighs a kilo. To the best of my knowledge, I've ordered nothing from abroad.
When I checked on their website the info states the parcel started out in China, came via East Mids (before it had left China), China, East Mids, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dubai, Germay and East Mids.
It also states that a clearing agent has picked up the import duty.
Seems really fishy to me.....dont want to pay for it and find out I've just imported a house brick or similar.
Any suggestions?

It does sound dodgy, are you expecting any delivery at all? Think carefully about whether it could have came from those locations. If not, then it seems you would be best just disposing of the card and letting UPS deal with it from there.
I have never used UPS, but I am assuming they will allow you the details of the sender if you call them should you want absolute piece of mind.Male.

Somewhere on the UPS invoice it should state what the goods are, asa well as the sender.
If it doesn't or you are suspicious, just refuse it.0 -
There is a scam Email going around, I've had lots, if you google it you'll find lots of people are getting it. I opened the first one I got and it contained a virus but my anti virus caught it, I've just deleted the rest without opening.0

The OP clearly states that he is in receipt not of an email, but a UPS card pushed through his letterbox. OP, are you sure that it is a genuine UPS card you have received, and not a fraudulent one that gives you a phone number to call that has no connection to UPS???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Id say the same. Ignore any phone nos on the card and look up your local UPS delivery office and ask them about it.0

I would be very suspicios and if you haven't purchase anything please be very careful as it can even be drugs or any other prohibited item. best call is to contact your local UPS office (try google) and ask if it's in your name and if it's not refuse it straight away.0

If it's drugs I'll pick it up for you.....
Has anyone seen the imaginative hiding places on Virgin 1's "Nothing to declare"?
Last night was coke hidden inside moulded car parts, alas the X-Ray machine is pretty hot on picking these things up......0 -

Sorry, what I should have also mentiond is that if hoax emails are going round maybe other UPS hoaxes are also going round0 -
received this message from local police a couple of days ago
We have been notified that the following scam has occurred in the area on several occasions. Please forward this message to anyone you feel will benefit from it.
~ An offender opens an account with a catalogue company using the victim's details and then orders goods to be sent to the victim's address.
The offender, purporting as the catalogue company, then calls the victim to inform them that goods were sent to their address in error and that they would send someone round to pick the goods up, which they do leaving the victim with a bill and no goods. ~
Please call the Police immediately if you are suspicious of goods that arrive at you address with your details on but are not order by you.
This may well be a version of this scam using COD items0
