Carers Allowance / tax credits / income support

I'm hoping to claim carers allowance for my mum but before I do so I was wondering if this would have any impact on the small amount of tax credits we recieve?
(I am a stay at home mum with a working hubby)
Also, I just read something that said a carer can claim income support or something attached to it called Carer Premium??
Would I be eligible for any of this?
I help my mum with shopping/house/garden etc and personal care when needed. I was hoping to find a part time job in sept when my little one goes to nursery to help out financially, so every few pennies would help.
Thanks.x

if your husband works, you wouldnt be able to claim income support or any means tested benefit.
i assume that your mum already gets the middle or high rate care componant of dla...........does she live alone?
if she does live alone does she get severe disability premium? If she does her money would be reduced if you claimed carers for her.0 -
its me again! I dont know about the tax credit bit, but someone will be along.
with carers you must give care for a minimum of 35 per week, and if you earn over £93 (i think) you cant get it (or its reduced or something like that lol)0 -
If your mums on middle or higher rate care, then as long as you care for her for 35hrs+ a week, you can put in a claim for careers allowance, which is currently £55, (may of gone up a quid or so in April increases), but you can't be earning more than £90ish, if you do claim that careers allowance, then their will be an element of your mums money she loses.
We've just been down that line as mum has been awarded middle rate care, so we looked into dad being paid for being her career, but his pension overrides the careers allowance,xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Carer's Allowance is a Taxable Social Security Benefit and will be classed as income on you Tax Credit Award. Receiving the standard rate Carer's Allowance for the year will add almost £3000 onto your income.0

I get carers allowance for caring for my son he gets high rate care and mobility, its taken in to account when working out tax credits because its classed as income,
You shouldn't be on income support if your hubsand works, you can get carers allowance if your mum gets mid/high rate dla and you care for her 35hrs or more a week.
Carers is £53.90 a week
