My friend & I both want to do the same OU course starting Oct 2010. She registered a while ago & said she wanted to apply for financial support & has recently received a letter saying the deadline for submission is the end of this week. However I've received nothing & I think I mustn't have completed reg process as my computer cut out before I got any sort of confirmation. I tried calling OU but their systems are down so can only give limited info. I've also re-tried reg process but, again, system is down. Now I'm worried I've left it too late. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with OU & applying for financial support?

I don't know - but as it's their problem with their systems down, they'd prob have some sway with letting there be a little extra while to get registered.
The OU have always been very friendly and helpful with me when I had to contact them - they need bums on seats (or fingers on keyboards) as much as you need them so I wouldn't worry too much0 -
I started my course 1st ot this month, and the deadline for me to apply for financial support was 26th march. If the course starts october you should have untill august to apply. I do live in wales so not sure if its different but i doubt it. As Christmas said seeing as their systems are down they should give a little leeway anyway.Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p0

Have you tried the online financial support application ? https://css2.open.ac.uk/online-financial-support/gatekeeper/gatekeeper.aspx .
If you already have an OU student number then you can use it.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
