Huge sudden increase from Atlantic
Options
I just checked my bank account and my elec DD has shot up from £14 a month to £73!
Rang husband who sheepishly informed that letter arrived two weeks ago but he thought it was just a round robin so ignored. The letter says that they estimate we are using more electricity than £14 - it's an estimate, mind! - so they are puttin it up to £73. CAn they do this? What are their grounds? And if we are using tonnes more, surely we can pay it off in smaller amounts - we simply can't pay that much a month.
Sigh

I got the same letter a few months back, the revised monthly payments are guestimates made by a very badly configured computer. If you call them up a human will work out a more accurate figure based on your last 4 bills, in my case it was about 1/2 what the letter said.0

Regardless of what DD figure they want to take from you per month, if you can show that £xx per month will cover the cost over the year at the current rates, including any present debt, they will agree to that figure. Look at your previous bill to find out your annual kWh usage and work it out from there.

I got my husband to call and remonstrate (if I did it at work I'd probably end up yelling accross the office!) and they have reduced it to £54, which is still HUGE, given that we've been paying £14. They say that our elec usage is £40 a month (Husband gave them current meter reading) but that the extra £14 is to cover our shortfall. Not sure how they picked £14.
THanks

I changed to Atlantic at the end of last year.I am pretty impressed with their prices and service, and get my bills over the internet. They have slightly increased my gas payments but left my electric alone for now. When i do the occasional comparison they come out the cheapest apart from Ebico. They also guaranteed not to raise prices again this year,by which time i will have got my free month! and can change if necessary .As i was with Powergen before i am pretty glad today that i changed!0
