How much have energy prices risen?

Options
I've just had a letter from npower saying I've not paid enough so my monthly DD is going up. Last year I was paying £35 a month for gas and elec, but this has gone up to £54. I have switched to npower juice which is a bit more than the scotish power I was on, but does that sound about right for a 2 bed flat? It seems a lot to me, but I know the prices have gone up a lot.
What do you think?

Theres no ruling to say if it is too much or not as everybodies useage is different. Also has the majority of your bills in the past been estimates? A common situation that arises is that people never get their meters read or never submit a reading and so their bills are under charges and then all of a sudden one quarter, the meter will be read and a catch up bill will be issued. All I can suggest is perhaps ask your utility company for some energy efficiency advice and take down a weeks worth of meter readings (try to go for the same time each day). This will show your utility company what your daily avearge useage is and that can show a lot to the right advisor. :)
  • When I was with scotish power I had an internet account and every 2 months put in my own meter readings. About 8 months ago I switched to npowerand check the estimates evey 3 months when they send me the bill, they seem about the same.
My question realy is, does this rise sound about even with the amount most companies have gone up?
  • My gf and I live in a one bedroom flat with economy 7 (no gas), a year ago I switched from Powergen to Npower. I was paying £28 pm which covered the bill, I had to put this up to £50 pm this May to try and reduce the outstanding amount that had started to grow, My latest statement arrived yesterday and I'm going to have to increase the payments to about £70 pm as £50 doesn't even cover the bill yet alone reduce the amount I now owe.

So £54 sounds about right, at least for this month anyway.
