Can anyone help as we bought a laptop but it wont connect to our wireless router which is a thompson which we got new last week.
We thought it was the laptop so we took it back today and got a replacement one but still wont do it and neither will our neighbours which he tried.
We wondered if it was anything to do with the windows 7 that is installed on the laptop.
I might sound a bit daft but I dont know much about computers and only bought a laptop so we can use it on the move and on holiday.

Is the wireless connectivity switched on and set up on the router? I.e. have you connected via an ethernet cable to check connectivity?0

Yes as we have our ordinary pc (which has xp on it) set up on it and have also tried the laptop with the cable and it works but not wirelessly, we also tried it out of the house in a few places that offered wi fi but alas no joy either.2020 wins - Espire passes for Gatwick airport lounge0

Is the wireless switch on the laptop turned on?
Make/model?Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Wireless on the router needs to be available some may be off by default.
Wireless on the laptop needs to be on. A slide switch or Alt + Function key. Tip: A little light tells you it's on.
Do you have the wireless security key ? It may be on a label on the bottom of the router.
On the task bar by the time/clock search for you router signal, can you connect to it by name, type in the security code.0 -
Does your laptop see the Thompson network in WiFi properties? Here today, hospital tomorrow0

Hi,
as already stated, is the wireless switched on, have a look at your function keys, you should find one like a little triangle on a pole, on my Samsung it is F9, you should also find a similar icon lit up, if wireless is on, along the front beside power icon, number lock etc.0
