  • i'll tell you one thing that does work (not so much with the toddler, but with my older DD)
we chose an up tempo noisy song, and the floor has to be tidy before it finishes, its amazing how much can get put away in 3 minutes just because its fun

hi some really good advice on here some that I'm considering myself

I have three children 13, 8 and 6 and one on the way - despite the age of my kids my house still isn't perfect and I'm a SAHM. I just do not know how people who work full time cope with housework and kids.

One thing I did when mine were little was keep a safety gate on the kitchen and bottom and top of stairs. That way I had full contol of what rooms they went into and I made them help mummy to clean before they could play elsewhere

Try not to worry too much about mess though - its inevitable when you have children unless you can afford a cleaner - and spending time with your little one is more rewarding than doing the dishes anyway

When I was little my mum used to play with us all day then about an hour before my dad came home we all ran around frantically tidying up so he didn't know the house had been a mess! I'm sure he always knew somehow though!

I tend to tidy bits up during the day as I go, but DD is a right pain for pulling something back out once you've put it away. Or she follows you, see's something else and hauls that out, and EVERYTHING just has to get taken into the living room. Her pram, scooter and bike, aswell as a packet of snap cards are currently all over the floor.

I will make her pick up the cards though :rotfl: I tend to have a quick 10minute tidy of the living room and her bedroom before bed. Keeps it ALMOST tidy. Best thing I did was put puzzles and games up high so she can't reach them and pull them down willy nilly. Nothing more annoying than working out which bits from which puzzles go in which box. ARGH
