Renting a car - not a one off, but not a lease?

Hi everyone -
Looking for some quick advice. Basically my car is on it's way out - I love it to bits but it needs a new clutch soon and is costing me ££ with high petrol costs and rising insurance.
My job is pretty uncertain at the moment, so I can't look into leasing a car and getting into a contract, and also can't commit myself to buying a new car.
I know that renting a car daily is pretty expensive, is there any companies that will allow longer term rentals without contract? (or a v.short term one) ?
Thanks in advance

All of the big hire firms have different rates from a month onwards - you need to phone them to ask about them.
I had a hire car for 2 months through work (different for business customers though) from Europcar
I'd suggest selling your current car and buying a smaller cheaper to run old car though (Pug 106 1.5D?) - a medium term hire isn't going to be cheap and you might find yourself paying what a perfectly serviceable car would cost.0 -
Thanks Kilty, I'll try them - wasn't sure if the 'big' firms did it or not.
At the moment I have a v.small loan on the car (personal, not HP) but I pay minimal amounts because I like the other benefits that come with the loan.
I'm paying around £250 a month at the moment in petroland repairs are rising monthly, plus needing a new clutch, it will also need a timing belt soon so that will be big bucks. It's 9 years old so can't ask for much more I guess.
