tractor scratched my car
Options
Tractor scratched my car last week. I took it to the Main dealer where I bought it 9 months ago. They gave me a quote of £750 for removing the bumper, repainting, taking off a panel over the wheel arch and repainting.
I was talked into putting the matter into a legal expenses company.
I was told i would have nothing else to do. This company took all the details, everything fine. hey have presumably got in touch with the farmer whose farmhand had scraped my car.
Now i get a call from this farmer saying he wants me to get a quote from another company in the same area, saying Main Dealers milk the insurance companies, his premiums will go up, i said to him that i had been told i could take it to any repairer i wanted and your insurance had to comply,
He then said he would not admit liability in that case, i said that he couldnt not admit responsibility after all that had happened. His farmhand giving me an instruction to take it to the people i had bought it from tosee if it could be polished out. (the scrape went down to the metal) I think the farmhand hadnt actually told his boss the extent of the damage.
Any thoughts you good people. I can understand his concern over his premiums but I am the innocent party here. He said his insurance company would be in touch with me in a few days. But shouldnt they be contacting my legal expenses company and not me.
Should be have rung me - I dont really think so, should he have said all this to the legal company.
Am I within my rights to insist it goes where i want it to be repaired.
Gotta say, Im not really bothered where it gets repaired as long as it gets back to where it was. (and i would trust the company he suggested to repair it as well as the main dealer)
Who pays the legal expenses people anyway, do they get a kick back from the repairers.
Thanks for any input.

Well, why not check out another repairer? Main dealers (stealers) will only get someone else to do the job for them anyway, most aren't equipped to do these sorts of repairs. So what they quote is the price they pay a 3rd party + profit x 3 = £750 (because it's through insurance).
In my experience main dealers should be avoided beyond the initial purchase.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Don't see any harm in just going direct to the farmer's insurance company and letting them sort it out for you. There is some truth in what the farmer says.0

If the car is newish, you may need to make sure any paint or anti-corrosion warranty is not invalidated by taking it to a non-dealer bodyshop.
The difference to his insurance premium by you making a £500 claim as against a £750 will be totally insignificant, it's the fact that he's made a claim that has the biggest impact at this level, so you're not going to save him any money by going anywhere else.
Make sure you relay the details of the conversation to the claims management company, as ultimately he's trying to blackmail you.
If I was in your shoes, I'd take it to a main dealer to get it repaired.0 -

Thanks all for your input.
He was insisting this a.m. that we go to his repairers but i checked with my main dealer and they said that it would indeed affect the warranty.
So anyway, Its going to the main dealer whether he likes it or not.
my car (its 12 months old) was diamond brighted when we bought it, I specifically told the main dealer not to include the actual goods in the quote because we have some at home which i will supply. (which they originally supplied to me. Guess what, some one went through the quote with me today and there it is 'Diamond Brite = £150' The labour was included in the labour costs on the quote. Robbing Barstewards. Anyway I have insisted the requote and the man is now going to go with the main dealer doing it after the requote.
I am really annoyed i have to go through all this hassle, i didnt do anything wrong, As it all happened on polling day perhaps its my come uppance for voting labourmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
