Nectar Credit Card by American Express!!

Hi all,
A bit of a moan, and a request for advice!!!
I have had the Nectar American Express card since March, but didnt actually use it for ages - kind of forgot about it really! I used it recently (to gain the inital extra Nectar points on a first spend), and have used it 4 times in total.
I have called them to ask them what the balance transfer rate was (main reason for getting the card really), and they reminded me that it was 5.9% for life for balances transfered during the first 6 months of having my card.
I am aware how balance transfers work - i.e. only transfer onto a clear card or else you end up paying higher interest for ages on any normal balance as payments go initially to the lower rate and all that, so I thought, I'd clear the card first and then balance transfer once the card was clear.
My 6 months is up mid September, so transfers have to be done by then to get the 5.9% life rate. All ok, as its only August now.
So, I get my statement in, but one transaction hasnt appeared on it as it was put through after the statement was printed, but online I can see the whole total. I try to pay online, clicking on the "pay whole amount" bit, not just the recent statement amount, but the payment wouldnt go through.
I then phoned them and was told I could only pay the amount due on the statement. I argued a little but gave up and paid just that (£124 approx), thinking I'd pay the rest a day or so later.
So, now I am trying to clear the remaining £80 in order to transfer balances, but American Express wont let me!! How crazy is that?! They moan when people dont pay, but try and pay them early and they hate that too!
I have spent ages on the phone and they're having none of it and say I have to wait for my next statement on the 11th September before I can pay the remaining £80. I have explained my reasons why I wish to pay now, and they say I am right to clear it before the balance tramsfers but that they couldnt do anything about it.
Can anyone offer some advice? I know its my own fault for leaving it this late, but I didnt think I;d have a problem giving them money! I refuse to transfer a balance and leave £80 on the card accruing interest for the next couple of years!! I know I could wait until the next statement and hope I can get a transfer through in time, but the timing is too short to risk it really.
Oh yes, and I am aware there are better balance transfer rates out there, but I no longer have a job and am trying to set up a business, and have just moved house last week too, so getting new credit would be impossible, so this is the best I can use at the moment.
Thanks all,
Funky

If you just want to pay that additional £80, what not try your online banking service. Most of the banks' online service are able you to pay bill online, just put in the card number you want to pay.
If I misunderstood your point, sorry.........Spend smart, and save more.0 -
I tried that - the online thing wont take my payments either!!!
SOmetimes, you just cant win it seems!Funky :A0 -
I think what iamchrisli means is to go online for your bank current account and make a payment instruction specifying 4 things amex sort code and a/c number, your card number as your reference and of course the £80.00.
This is a risk of course because although I'm sure they'l receive the money, they may not necessarily put it to your account until the statement date.
Difficult one if they won't play along!!!Before doing something... do nothing0 -
Oh I see...sorry iamchrisli - miunderstood what you meant.
Could try that I suppose and then check with amex in a few days.
Thanks.Funky :A0 -
If you want to be really sure of clearing the balance transfer £85/90 to the card via telephone/internet banking (as specified above) that means you will have a small credit bufferzone on your account for any interest charges etc.
This will also help you when you do your B/T as your account will be slightly in creditSave a life. Learn emergency first aid.
Who knows what might happen tomorrow or who may need help.
Contact your local college or first aid provider to enquire about free courses in your area.
Already a first aider? Have you updated your first aid to the new 2005 guidelines? Most providers should now be training the new (and more effective) CPR protocols, see if they are offering refresher courses near you.0
