I think you might be right about your MP !

S/he is right about the Ombudsman but s/he can contact TCO for you to try to get things moving. I believe they have a 'hotline' number for them

It used to be (and still could be for all I know) that the forms are scanned in and if there's anything which is fuzzy or unclear then mistakes are made which then show up on the system.

I had this same problem with two of my clients in the past and yes it was extremely frustrating. We had to get the MP involved.

Hi. Unfortunately, my issue is with the Self Employment Department at HMRC, not the TCO. The stupid thing is that HMRC had all my details listed correctly with every piece of correspondence they sent me, but the security questions just failed every time (and I don't recall ever putting my answers to any security questions on a form, so the errors must have arisen originally from their end).

I have been told so many different things from staff there; the best excuse was that it was the fault of another employer (absolutely nothing to do with me, since I've always been self-employed), who had input incorrect details against my NI number, causing the !!!! up at HMRC. However, when I pointed out that even if that was the case, my dealings are with HMRC only, not this other company, so it is surely their responsibility to put it right, they still blamed the other company, and told me the problem is likely to re-occur at the start of every new financial year!!

I felt there was little point in me pursuing my MP, because he informed me that I had been to the very top within HMRC, and couldn't take it any further. The route I had to follow was The Adjudicator's Office (who undertake complaints about HMRC). I did ask my MP to follow it up when I was told that it would take at least 13 months for my case to even be passed to a caseworker. My MP wrote to The Adjudicator's Office to speed them along, and then sent me their reply, which basically confirmed what The Adjudicator's Office had verbally told me, which was that they were inundated, and could not look at my case for more than a year!!! Fat lot of good the MP was!

Has anybody ever had difficulty getting through the security questions? I have been trying for the past week and after waiting about 10mins on hold i can't get through the security questions (name and middle names, NI number and date of birth). Now i am positive that i know all these things (being 28 years old i should do by now!)

I even got my renewal forms through today and tried again as this information was on my letter. I said it exactly as it is written down on my letter and failed again. I tried to explain that these details were all on the letter they sent me so they must have the correct information. When i asked each time how this can be rectified they just said they can't help me any further as i hadn't got through security and i just needed to try again.

Has anybody who has suffered anything similar got any suggestions how i can get this sorted. Is there a way to do it online as it would be good to never have to speak to these imbeciles. They are so infuriating that i would imagine when they meet new people they probably have to lie about their job so as not to be constantly attacked in the street!!

    Apologies rant over

WOW I had the same problem last wk with them, phoned them up and failed it with my name. Asked him double check NI number had been taken correctly to which it had. Ended up being a computer said no conversation
