extra payments for dietary needs

My daughter has just spent yet another night in hospital with my 2 year old grandson due to an allergic reactio. He is allergic to quite a few food things that makes it difficult to know what to feed him
my daughter needs to cook meals from scratch now so that she knows exactly what is in them. He already has to have several special foods etc that are more expensive. He attends an allery clinic regularly and has had several hospital visits. He also has to have special bath oil and skin creams for his eczema. My daughter will not ask for help financially...but i understand that she may be entitled to extra help as she is not working and on income support. Does anyone know where i can get more info about this to see if she is eligible???thanks

The creams and lotions et.c should be free on prescription.

Special foods may sometimes be on prescription and therefore free to the child.

If the prescription items keep the condition under control then there should be no need for DLA. ....At his age, the condition doesn't affect his mobility, does it? Are his care needs greater than that of a 'normal' (what a problematic word!) child of his age?

I don't think that cooking food from scratch could be seen as a special need.

If your daughter takes proof of her income support to the hospital, she should be able to claim travel expenses. If she goes by bus or train, she should retain her tickets as they will be needed by the finance office.

Special foods and creams can be presscribed in many cases and prescriptions are free for children, regardless of parental income.

A diagnosis does not entitle anybody to DLA, but increased care needs could mean that he is entitled. For example, your grandson might need additional baths, plus his mother will have to apply creams. He might also need to take medication, such as anti-histimine. This would show that he has care needs that other children of his age do not have.

If your grandson does get DLA (at middle or higher rate care), his mum can apply for Carer's Allowance. She should also inform Child Tax Credits, as an additional premium can be paid.

We havent heard any of the details yet.
The daughter could be on benefits, but she could also be married with a joint income of £50k.
I did ask earlier but no answer as yet.

Although I see a definite contradiction in the two statements, the information is given in the OP. ;)
